Nothing much to say on this one, except I hope I haven't used it already :D

Entries are being taken from now until the 20th of March or thereabouts. Same story, use your existing account on http://photos.hotshotireland.com to upload into the appropriate section. If you don't already have an account, create one!

nice & easy was the idea alright, I'd say everyone has at least one shot they could enter. Think of all the hugely complicated admin work though; two damn rounds of voting

Will someone define what is meant by "still life" for the purpose of this competition.

Wikipedia defines it as "A still life is a work of art which represents a subject composed of inanimate objects. Still life paintings, such as of flowers or fruit, give the artist more leeway in the arrangement of design elements within a composition than do paintings of other types of subjects such as landscape or portraiture."

Most of the entries so far wouldn't be still lifes going by that definition.

Yep, register yourself an account over on http://photos.hotshotireland.com and upload your photo there.

As for the definition of Still Life, make of it what you will, I'm not about to start censoring anyone's representation. If a photo blatantly isn't in the month's subject it'll very likely end up with very few or no votes. It all works itself out in the end :D

Nice one there Shrimp - pity the music used is for Piano and not Violin.

    Just a technicality I suppose.

I've had a look at the entries for the latest photo challenge and going by the pictures up there so far, the 'still life' subject matter submitted seems to fall within a very broad scope so I might have a picture that I can use.

My question is this: can a picture submitted have text indicating copyright?
I have placed a few pictures (cars) on boards before and have sudsequently seen them posted on other websites with people falsely claiming credit.

Sometimes things like that are done on purpose to get the view to actually look at the photo. ;)

The viewer will prolly wonder if I even knew it was piano music.. I was well aware it was as I play the piano. I did it to give the picture an edge. It'll arouse questions in the viewers head when they look at it (it did with you). It'll make them think about the arrangement and how I may have done it by accident, or on purpose.

They may not think of either, but instead just start humming that song? Who knows..

    Thanks for the feedback.

Similar has happened to me too, discovered a postcard with a strangely familiar picture on it. Somebody had grabbed one of our images off the net (not from boards.ie though), and removed the copyright details.
Even after that I still dont believe destroying the photo by smacking a big watermark over it. Instead people get to see the pics in all their glory, and there is the satisfaction of HAMMERING the gits who nick any stuff!:p

My laptop is on the blink at the moment, and I'm waiting on my MacBook Pro to ship. Until then, the only images I have access to are in my deviantart page.
I'm looking to use this one:

    Flower_Of_Ice_by_sinecurea.jpg

could somebody help me by resizing the image please? A straight 50% crop should be all that's needed.

PM me if you're able to help, I'll e-mail you the file :)

    Cheers,
    S.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,645 ✭✭✭Shrimp

Was just wondering whether it broke the basic editing rules or not... Have submitted my photo already now anyway so it doesnt really matter either way.
