Yesterday and today any trip through the arts block has been plagued by SU candidates and their minions forcing me to endure their manifestos and today the science block is just as bad:mad: It has destroyed any slight chance there was of me voting and at this point I’m on the verge of attacking the next person that harasses me!!!

Well as it happens I ran into panda(the only canvasser I haven't been sorry to run into!) and she insists I vote for Mr. Hayden, then I myself would be inclined to vote for Orla Ni somethingorother cuz after careful thought and deliberation I concluded she's the hottest, so with all this confusion and harassment I'll just remain unpartisan:)

I am absolutely livid!! I was having a total sh!t day and then while queueing to vote earlier I was continually harrased by two duffy canvassers they wouldnt leave me alone... I may have aggravated them slightly but for gods sake they should have realised that when i said no i'm voting for dan and you cant change my mind they would have just gone and left me but no. They just wouldnt stop barking at me and were getting kind of aggressive they were leaning over me at either side and i felt so intimadated. I was on the verge of tears coz i was already having a bad day. In the end some candidate that i cant remember name of and anto kelly got them away from me... and when i came out dan said sorry to me and i was like why... all i can say is i'm so glad its over and normality will return!!

*hugz* i feel your pain... the eng building because of the layout of the stairs has effectively turned into a gauntlet! what a pack of assholes. even the sex appeal of the purple t shirted girls doesn't make me vote for their candidate.

hint: use the lift in eng today!

I hate all this crap that goes on around the SU elections. It's all just so petty and unnecessary.

    Well you could just say:
    1. Tell them you've already voted
    2. Tell them to fcuk off

OOOH, we should have a "How to avoid the Canvassers" thread!

my hint: enter the Arts block through the left door from the Department of Lung Cancer. Going thru the Right door will inevitably lead to your person being assaulted by multiple Hacks.

My tip for science is carry a blood stained machete and ware a facial expression that tells them you won’t hesitate to use it:eek:

I'd suggest the library(where I am now) but they have it surrounded, I'm trapped:(

ha sorry TheVan... I sound like a total bitch! Duffy's thugs put me in such a foul humour i didnt mean to take it out on ye!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭blondie83

I was studying in Arts yesterday and spent the whole day walking around holding my DCU student card out in front of me...it literally cleared a path :D Btw if anyone needs an escort anywhere through the canvassers just give me a shout!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,255 ✭✭✭✭The_Minister

One girl wouldn't get out of my way until I listened to her. I just leaned down and said "get out of my way or I go through you":D
Funny the Duffy canvassers were polite to me and accepting of my decision to vote for Dan/Orla.

Thing is I know what i'm doin for president but not for Welfare or Education.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,016 ✭✭✭Blush_01

Get a Voted sticker. They really do leave you alone. well, the odd twat will ask who you voted for, but that's none of their business anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,437 ✭✭✭tintinr35

Actually the duffy people were really nice and friendly, made me feel bad i didnt vote for him.

I've always been of the opinion that the people who run for these elections are absolutely the last people that you would want to be given the job.

    Self promotion anyone??

i'm armed with a voted sticker on my front and my ass

    Pythia, feel better.

Ah Duffy's lot are, by and large, pretty sound.

Although granted I'm biased cos I was campaigning for them today...:D :o

[rant]Well despite the fact I hadn't had any lectures today, I decided to come into UCD after work to voice my democracy and all that.

Well as I walk f**king wrecked the Orts blck pretty much turns into Grafton Street with annoying Concern/Barnardos mugger election types diving out infront of you and pretty much grabbing you by the balls in order to get you're attention! Grrr I'm angry.

Then I go to vote and I wriggle my way through Batman and the hacks and I go to vote... no f**king pen with me! They had no pen at the polling station at all so I had to be a right twat in asking everyone voting whether they had a lend.... grrrr! :o If you were an unfortunate victim of my ''do ya have a lend of pen'' mugging I'm sorry! Grrr even more angry!

Oh then while me with my headphones leaving some election mugger (Duffy member) asks whether I have a second to speak and I say ''I've voted'' and she says ''but just one second''!!! Annoying so and so!

and then the DARTs were f**ked so it took me ages to get home!

I'm angry..... and I'm never voting again after this! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:mad:   [/rant]

I just kept telling them I've already voted, they were all over the science building, irritating people. As it happens I didn't get round to voting, couldn't really care less tbh I've no idea who I was going to vote for. Most of the candidates just told us whats wrong with college rather than anything they were going to actually do about it in their pre lecture spiels anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,255 ✭✭✭✭The_Minister

Many didn't believe that I had voted. I think Duffy's were polite because tey could see that most people have made up their mind on him.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭Red Alert

A few of Dan Hayden's canvassers were hot i will admit.

I really think that the college has to change the way the elections are run. It's not fair for students to be harrassed like they were yesterday. No wonder there is always such a poor turnout for the su elections.
I think manifestos should just be layed out clearly in each faculty,so people can read for themselves about the candidate.I think each candidate should be limited to have just one person in each faculty canvassing for them.Enda duffy had people who arent even students canvassing for him and that most certainly shouldnt be allowed.

Saying that,it was good fun canvassing.Bumped into sooo many people was like a big old reunion.I recognised waltons too(he didnt have a duck on his shoulder i was quite dissapointed)

was funny bumping into you humbert, cept for the fact that niall dolan, one of enda duffys cronies, was really rude and interuppted us.I hate that sort of carry on.I only really stopped people that I knew and everytime I was talking to someone he would butt in and start going on about duffys non existent policies.some people just have no manners........

In 'real' elections it is not allowed to canvass within a certain radius of the polling station for good reason. Why can't this be applied here in UCD? It saddens me that an election can be won based on numbers and the ability to pester people, rather than on well-considered and feasible policies for improvement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 524 ✭✭✭Lisapeep

There is a radius within which they cannot canvass! I think it's 5 metres or something!

I concur with this, altho I didn't say anything to Enda's campaign manager (can't remember his name) about it...

When I was canvassing, I stayed well away from the polling station - even went as far as the bus terminuses (terminii???) where I found it was much more productive to talk to ppl after they had just gotten off the bus, before they'd had to "run the gauntlet" and gotten severely p*ssed off.
