That kind of thing makes me sick. They must have been very determined to break into a "secure" unit to cause that damage specifically to those classics, it seems very targetted.

    The mind boggles...

    Insurance job?
    Mob deal gone wrong?
Didn't want to pay for "protection"?

[init conspiracy]Looks a bit comprehensive for simple 'vandalism'...[end conspiracy]

Did they have to hotwire all the cars I wonder, or were the keys just hanging up somewhere.

Seems odd there's no CCTV cameras for a collection of that value.

    Yikes I'm angry now...

CCTV camera in one of the pics ok, I'd also be a bit towards the conspiricy theory

I doubt it was insurance job, a fire would have taken care of that much more handily.

The dentist, the owner, must be devastated. Totally mindless.

OH...MY...GOD, How could anyone do that to all them beauty's? Anything they didn't drive they just used them as something to bounce off. How could you set foot in that garage again? I'd say they'll get their come-uppins.

I was actually driving through Wales when I heard that on Welsh radio. It made me sick - I don't think this was anything other than pure vandalism - which I see all too often in my job.

But all they get is community service anytime they get brought to court. I find it strange though that such a prized collection had such bad security in place. I am sure the insurance will cover it though and most of the cars can be repaired - still it makes us all think a bit more about the security of our babies.

    Jesus H. Christ.

I'm speechless, and Alfa, you are quite correct. The failure to crack down on this type of thuggery (Dublin Riots anyone), is not with the police, as many would have us believe, but with the laughable penalties handed down by the legal system.

Doesn't say much about how secure the place was, right 'nuff. Maybe if the police do have good evidence, they can secure stronger convictions ?

I had great results with the Gardai after giving them this footage:

BTW I have always toyed with the thought of installing this stuff professionally and making a living out of it. Do ye's think there'd be interest or is CCTV still a "commercial-only" application ? It's not hugely expensive - EUR600 for a PC, EUR400 for the camera application, and EUR200 per camera.

That security footage reminds me of a bank robbery in Kerry a few years ago - the lone culprit was identified when the gardai published the photo still of the banks security footage in the Kerryman.

At the subsequent trial the court burst into laughter when it emerged how he was identified. :v:

Those guys certainly looked into the camera often enough - even pulled down their hoodies to make it easier for the gardai.

I hope that was not your MX5 Frank - I see a Triumph Stag parked next to it?

Yeah, that's my '5. I had only recently fitted a new roof as the previous one had been slashed the same way - plus the doorlocks had been punched one other time too. I think it's the same dudes. If you go up a level and look at the other footage you can see it's the same ones coming back.

The Gardai picked yer man up and put him in custody - but as you know, that doesn't last long due to court dates being delayed. Couple of months later they picked him up again sitting in a stolen car, so for that plus my car he got six months.

Funny part was that although he was told we had footage (wasn't shown to him) he was pleading not-guilty up until the video was shown in court. Apparently they laughed him out of the place :)

No, they haven't tried the Stag - guess these particular dumba$$es be too stupid to get past not only the immobiliser but mainly the choke-start, it's a fickle thing heh heh

That's so sad about those jags, it's as if those yobs don't realise how important those cars are

what CCTV software and harware are you using frank?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,487 ✭✭✭franksm

Geovision GV-800 with v6.1 of the software - haven't upgraded to v7 yet, and may not till I see it on someone else's setup first.

It's a great system, I really like it. And the ability to look at camera footage over the internet is cool - although it sucks up processing power on the master PC.

yea, I figured it would be Geovison alright. The quality with them is great. Did you pick the card up on ebay?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,487 ✭✭✭franksm

Unfortunately no - I paid full wack for it. Before buying the Geovision I bought an 80-quid 4-cam card off Ebay - but it was sh!te. Software was pirated or reverse-engineered from some full-package, and would only work with Win2000 not XP. Plus I bought some cheap 2nd-hand cameras off EBay - they were pretty awful too. So in the end paid full wack for Sony ExView day/night cameras. Glad I bought the quality gear though - the system has been faultless so long as you get it to reboot the PC periodically.

If you can get Geovision off Ebay, that would be sound - but I've learned my lesson in avoiding those cheap cards.
