Ok, im not getting tired of my current slr, its grand, but I notice a few people have more than one dslr.....is there a specific reason? Will one not do.. I notice it more with press photographers, I do a bit of photo journalism, and only have my own EOS 300D and a few lenses and im happy out, but whats with fellas lugging a 1D and 20D with different lenses on? (camera examles).

main reason would be so that they don't have to spend time switching lenses and potentially losing a shot. That and they'd need to have a backup body in case one fails.

I think for the average Joe its pretty pointless, unless of course you're just trying to justify an upgrade to a 20/30D :D

I have often wondered that myself ... having had access for the first time to the touch line at Croker during the Clare v Cork and Dublin v Tyrone games last year it is something I saw lots of with sports jounalism ...

I suspect it is because changing lenses is impractical for this type of photogrphy ... you need to be in a position to move quickly when that all important once in a lifetime shot comes up ... getting caught with the wrong lens is a no-no ... two cameras gives you more options ... you will notice that the 1d is always the camera with the big monster lens. While the 20d is used for quick snaps close in ... often after just the game.

... besides ... if photogrpahy is your livyhood then having more than 2 cameras is a must ... you need back up in the event of failure ..

Anyway ... just guessing here but that's my take on it ...

The reason is that they have 2 different lenses on the two cameras, plus they also have a backup camera just in case.

For example, camera one has a wide zoom (say 28mm to 55mm), camera 2 has a long zoom (say 80mm to 300mm)... Means no changing of lens' if a pic presents itself.

Alot of the time, I use my 300D for colour and my 1000Fn for B&W.

I was thinking about getting a small compact digital for those occasions when you can't be lugging around an SLR and a bunch of lenses.
Don't think I could justify another DSLR though!

i use two dSLR's for concerts because it's so much easier than changing lenses and missing shots because you have the wrong lens on.

it's expensive but for me it's worth it over the hassle of lens changes
