You need to convert your CD files to MP3. Something like cdex will do the job. Download Cdex and when you put in your CD CDex will give you offer to convert to MP3. This compresses the files to about one tenth of what they were. When they are converted you copy them to whatever drive your MP3 player is showing as.

Wav yes, mp3 no. Mp3 is already a compressed format so once you've got your tracks in mp3 format it should just be a matter of copy and pasting them to your mp3 player. To rip them from a cd to mp3 use winamp or something similar. Windows media player doesn't have an mp3 encoder built in (at least not when I checked last, which is a long time admitedly).

cdex or xilisoft ripper (some people find xilisoft easier to use)
    ^ pop in Cd ..
( It's best that you're connected to the Internet at the time (CDDB = automatic naming of most albums) )
Select all (if not already selected)
Click on the button on the side - "extract tracks to COMPRESSED audio"
(C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\MP3\ is the default directory to save to - but you can change the compression rate & location in Settings-options in cdex)

    (MP3 is compressed WAV..so no. The process: CD-> WAV -> MP3 -> copy to MP3 player)

Point me in the direction / upload a copy of the manual and I'll have a look if needed)

It does - select "Rip" in the tabs at the top of the player

    Isn't that WMA though?

I think that you can set it to WMA too - It definatly does mp3 though because I do all my music with it.

In version 10 you have a choice of formats.

    Tools>Options>

Rip Music [Tab] > Format drop-down list

    Gives you:

    Windows Media Audio
Windows Media Audio (variable bit rate)
    Windows Media Audio (Lossless)
    mp3
