Got my eazypass tags last week (one for my Gilera 180SP and one for my missus's car). It didn't come with any installation instructions for the bike so I just threw it in the back box and hoped for the best as I thought it used RFID technology. Anyway it didn't work when I tried it today on the M50 Eazypass lane and as there was a car behind me I just went outside the barrier and set the alarm off:eek:

Here's the Email I sent to Eazypass
    Dear Sir/Madam,

I was annoyed to discover that my eazypass tag must be installed in such a way as to a have the barcode visible. Why did you sell me a tag without any accompanying instructions for a motorbike (they're not on your website either)? When I phoned your customer service department I was asked if I had any pockets so I could produce the tag as needed. The whole point in getting one was to avoid the inconvenience of having to take my gloves off and look for change! If I stick the tag to the back of my bike windshield there's a good chance that it'll get stolen. Is there any way I can stick a label with the barcode to my bike and keep the tag somewhere out of sight on the bike?

    Yours sincerely

    I'll post the reply here.

Anyone out there using Eazypass on a bike?

yeah I've got one. feel like throwing it at the gates half the time.

I find the follwoing works the best anyhow:

Keep it high on your front (pocket if possible). Barcode facing forward.
Make sure you wait till gate goes down before proceeding and aren't too close to car in front.

Found all this out through trial and error (have set off the alarm aswell a few times).

For some reason north bound ezy pass lane on M50 won't work for me so I've to queue up with the others in the money lanes. Really frustrated about having to do this and the phone operators sympathise but say there is nothing they can do.

    Gents,

How does the easypass work out cost wise? I always discounted it because I presumed you had to stick a sticker on the windscreen of a car that was scanned. However obviously not!

How much does it work out at on a per crossing basis? I dont go over the toll bridge because I hate driving with a €1 (and then a 20c) coin in the palm of my hand for the whole journey...

    Cheers,

    L.

Info on additional cost to standard rates using eazy pass

Basically €1 per month for up to two tags.

I keep my tag inside the breast pocket of my hi vis jacket. Works a treat all the time, doing it for years now. Works by radio freq, no need to physically see barcode. That's how it charges the lower rate for the bike. Use your car tag and you end up being charged car rates

That's how I figured it worked - stupid of me to expect the helpline staff to know how their own tags work:)

Well here's the response I got from Eazypass:
    Hi,
What we recommend for motorbike users is to place the tag in the breast
pocket of their jacket with the barcode facing outwards and this is
sufficient for the beacon to read the tag. I have attached a letter
that we usually send out with new motorbike accounts that you should
have received. If you have any further questions, please do not
    hesitate to contact us.
    Regards,
    Michelle

Yeah works for me when its in my pocket, only set off the alarm once. Its a damm sight better then paying the 80c, but it brings up the old question, why do bikes have to pay there in the first place! (but hey I'm over it!!) :D
