Oak are a mostly instrumental rock/metal band based in Dublin. They played the Ballroom back in July with the promise of "rocking our ball(s) off". We're still looking for those balls...

Early 80's synth soundtrack inspired new wave. It's "October 1981"; it's gone midnight and you're all alone; you hear a menacing synthesizer warble and a spooky, metallic, other-wordly voice from outside; your death-wish curiosity is stimulated and you enter a dark alleyway to investigate; suddenly, there's a loud crash of drums and before you realise it you're being dismembered by a relentless buzz-saw of raging guitar and bass. Welcome to the world of 80s video nasty soundtracks as unearthed and reanimated by the Dublin underground's furious antidote to limp, sequenced, faux-indie frippery. Caustic and corrosive, vibrant and vehement; Betamax Format know the drill.

    The Coldspoon Conspiracy

The Coldspoon Conspiracy are an Irish band who have just recently re-relocated back to Dublin after spending a year living in Melbourne and touring around Australia and New Zealand. The 4 members of The Coldspoon Conspiracy have all performed in other bands, such as Muddled, Jape, The Action Index, Crayonsmith, Lazybug, Old Man Polka, Goodtime John (band), Jeff Martin (band), The Chimps, Falcon Brest, The Microphones, Warlords of Pez, Life After Modelling and The Pat Cannon.

The Ballroom romance club opens its doors for the 50th time Friday 31st March in the Lower Deck. Started by the Dublin/Sligo band Holy Ghost Fathers back in June 2002 the Ballroom has seen its stage graced by the likes of local heroes such as The Chalets, The Jimmy Cake, Jape, The Killing Spree, Halfset and acts from the UK, American and Australia such as Josh Pearson (Bella Union records) and Part Chimp (Rock Action Records).

    Some Ballroom facts:

1/ Some 6,000 CD-r compliations have been distributed by the Ballroom
2/ In total the Ballroom crew have organised 59 gigs
3/ The Ballroom has seen 236 sets from 143 different acts
4/ Two Ballroom tours have been run around Ireland - in 2004 with Boxes and Holy Ghost Fathers and 2005 with Betamax Format and Trails
5/ The 40th Ballroom was run in Melbourne, Australia
6/ The Ballroom has got the thumbs up from Time Out and the NME

Blimey, I feel old. Was at the first ten, but since haven't gotten to go to any.

    Hopefully that shall be rectified.
