buying camera...narrowed down so far to...

Hi,

I'm buying a camera as a gift for my father...€250 - €350 is my range.

There's quite a few cameras out there in that range as I've found out. I've looked on line at the recommendations on this site and visited some camera shops in Dublin.

I'm thinking along the lines of the following

The Casio z750
Minolta X1
Fuji F460 / F470

Anyone have any comments or suggestions.

I don't have a digital camera myself but have used other peoples occasionally.

had a look at website...do many people use it...is it biased...etc? some very negative ratings for all models

should have been more specific with the models:

Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1
Casio Exilim EX-Z 750
Fuji F460 /F470

dont think they are biased, just one of the best sites for digital cameras and they arent easily impressed.

What will you be using it for? Do you want creative control or just a handy point and shoot?

Point and shoot mainly...I see that a lot of the new point and shoot cameras don't have a viewfinder and just the screen. does this make much of a difference?

6 x 4 inch prints...maybe the odd larger print.

Most viewfinders are pretty useless on point and shoots... (only if you want to conserve battery power) but nowadays you can get approx. 400 shots on one charge so power isn't much of a problem.

I love my Minolta DiMAGE G530... X1 is kinda like that without the protruding lens right?

To be honest I think if you want 6 x 4 point and shoots perhaps a Sony would be the best choice... I think that it was said (on dpreview) that they create the best no fuss pictures e.g. no need to edit them on a computer to create the best picture... the processor will create the most consumer friendly, ready to print ones...
