Wireless Net work problems.

    Wireless Net work problems.

I lost connection yesterday. Think that the wireless card card took a knock. But after a while of messing around, I got it back up and running. But I can't access the network. It is asking for a network key.

The problem is my boss is in hospital and the guy he normally calls for computer problems is on Holiday and I'm locked out and need access to files. Is there away I can look on the server or something to get the key?

    Thanks in advance,

    Phil

In fairness, if the story is true. Bug the boss and guy on holidays.
If it's business critical, this scenario should never have arisen.

Hang about, if you have physical access to the server/network, why do you need wireless ??

If you don't have physical access, and this I find strange since wireless is short range, then I can't think of any reason why any one should help you, since you will get access when the people who look after security and autherisation arrive back.

At the end of the day it's not a technical problem.

Even with access to the server or router ,the access key is most likely hashed out, looking like this ***********. That being the case you won't be able to find it out, but you could re-set it. This would break everyone elses connection though and if you're not the person in charge of IT then you really shouldn't be doing any of this. It's not your responsibility and it may get you fired if you try.

It's the bosses fault for not arranging cover for the IT guy when he's on holiday, all you can do is wait as there isn't anything you can or should do.

So the guy who's responsibility it is do that job and that gets paid to do that job ... did his job. Good to hear it. Your boss needs to revise his business practices.

My boss is fcuk’n great and very good at what he does. His business practice has survived in business for over 60 years. Yer, he’s a bit old school. But things sometimes just happen. There is no one to blame, no ones error, it just is. I was merely asking to see if some one may be able to offer some advice to help me out of a jam.

Did think it would result in such replies.
