proving people wrong

Why is it that even when you state facts on boards, back it up from offical websites, someone always has to 'try' prove you wrong here.... You could say grass is green and someone with disagree just to disagree, and I am not just talking about my posts.

I used to think I was helping people out on boards by finding answers, and offical stances on things but now I am just sick having to justify everything...

I started a news topic on Dr Micheal Neary who has been top story of every News Media in the country for the last 24 hours and someone tried to convince me it should be in humanities and not news, granted it could be eligible for both, but why bother, trying to justify every discission i make on posting to people not interested in the post just interested in telling you your opinion is wrong.....

This is starting to put me off posting. I have no problem discussing and debating but some just take the pi** at this stage.

We are all here as members to help one another out and discuss things, its not a "I am more intellegent then you are, cause I have 2000 more posts the you competition", or cause I can spell better then you.

Thankfully the intellegent posters are what keep me here.

Yeah people who have nothing to add except that you may have posted your topic in a deserted subforum really annoy me.

Edit: I just totally misread what you posted. How embarassing..

I'd have to strongly disagree with you there, I've never seen a case of two people arguing over the greeness of a certain type of grass :D:D Sorry had to do it :o

People are argumentative fcuks in general. And especially here, where ego comes into play.. it's just a minefield. What I detest is when someone picks apart a post by quoting every line of it and disagreeing with every bleedin thing. Ggrrrrr

Boards is made up of quite a diverse group of people, I've never seen anyone make a comment someone didn't disagree with, we're an argumentative, opinionated group... its one of the things I really like about the place.

As for people replying to say 'wrong forum, blah blah blah...', that’s for the moderator of the forum to decide, pay them no heed, and if it really bothers you, there is an ignore option. :)

There is a difference between having an opinion, giving somebody advice, and trying to prove somebody wrong. You seem to be mixing those stances up. Even your example of grass being green is an unqualified statement.

The colour of grass is an oblique question. Because you have not defined what you mean by it. Do you mean when not viewed by humans? Grass can change colour under different illuminations. What if you shined an orange light at grass? What colour would it be? What if you viewed grass at night? What colour would it be?

People whine and moan about posters "challanging" their intelligence, or arguing for the sake of it. This place represents a diverse spectrum of personalities and opinons. If peoples answers or opinons don't fit into what you believe the sterotypical postee should be you have one course of action which will allow you to find your posting nirvana. Don't post.

And grass is not always green.:D

    Yeah sometimes it's yellow.

You can introduce GM substances into any grass and change it's colour. They sometimes do this to rape seed grass in the states, from a crop management perspective.

Also if you pluck you common ol' grass from the front garden, and wash it, the root will be white and the head green.

Hay is colourless, white or a dark brown, dependant on it's stage of decomposition.

Wonder how something can be colourless but at the same time not be transparent or invisible
    Maybe gases are the answer?

dbnavan, you posted this in the wrong forum. it doesn't belong here. it belongs here or here. :D

In summer time my grass is yellow. You're wrong TBH....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,061 ✭✭✭✭Terry

the grass is never greener on the other side. it's just a different shade.

(Colourless) water will be transparent and therefore is not the answer to my hypothetical question. I'll have to consult the runes on this one :)

And yet it's not transparent. If it was should we not be able to see to the bottom of the sea? I think you are missing the "semi" bit. :D

A 'piece' of water taken from the sea depths and brought to the surface will be transparent or semi-transparent ;) (provided it does not saturated with water-soluble particulate matter). Transparency is only manifest to us where there is light and the reason we can't see to the bottom of the sea is because the absorption and diffusion of light in sea water means there is very little to none down there. I think.

    Actually I didn't google that!
It came from my memory banks, filed under "GSCE physics"

I think we've proved the point of the thread though...

    Good one!
Excellent use of that old trick - unable to counter on the facts so throw in a supposition and typo objection!

I would also like to point out that you can in fact get many different types of grasses to plant in your garden border, ranging from red/green/maroon/white.. endless amount of colours in fact...

To be fair, when taking on the monumental task of splitting grass into manageable colour groups, one is best to approach the experts ~ www.watching-grass-grow.com ~ Bentgrass, Bluegrass, Bluegrass, Fescue, Ryegrass all produce a wonderful visual spectrum of hues.

Old Trick? I agreed with you. Maybe I should have ignored your typo because of some warrent too in your brian or is that brain:confused: ?

As for the facts, what facts? You squirmed, wormed, re-worded, re-qualified, asked and failed to fully answer. Then again, maybe that's just the way I'm reading your posts, I don't have any gsce's.

You see, I thought that you were of the opinon that this thread had served it's purpose when you said that "we've proved the point of the thread though." and that you where going to be on your merry non-googling, font of all knowledge, gsce way. But I guess I was wrong :( .

dbnavan> I know exactly what you mean. Several posters and I were on a thread the other day explaining the customer's rights in relation to an item which breaks after purchase. After quoting the law in both legal and laymans terms still continued to argue with us!!
