I have a machine that i will have to replace soon ,but for my own piece of mind could anyone tell me is it worth holding on to it for as long as i can, or would i notice a major difference in photo editing, file transfers and decoding if i upgrade.
    2GHZ intel
    768MB Rambus 800Mhz ram
    geforce fx5200
    260GB - 130+130
    Win XP
    Lan 10/100
    SbaudigyEX

It's never crashed ,it's always able to cope with a hang and let me close the problem without shutting down.

Tbh if it does the job you want it to do, at the level you want it to do it at, then there's very little point in upgrading.

    More RAM perhaps... always good:)

I wouldn't buy more RAM. Rambus wont be portable to another machine.

If you're happy with that machine, keep it. If you feel it's slowing down a bit, a fresh install of windows usually helps things a bit.

2GHz is perfectly adequate for most people.

Probably not tbh. None of those are overly processor intensive. You might save 30 seconds in a ten minute session of photo editing. :) File transfers and avi decoding take very little power. (Encoding times are roughly linear with processing power, but decoding(i.e. viewing) wont tax your processor).

Thanks a million for your replies lads.
The machine is coming up on it's fourth birthday in march.
I was really thinking of getting rid, but now i think i'll continue with the old bertha for another while.
Will install a fresh copy of windows though.
Thanks again for your feedback folks.
PS I hope the thing doesn't burn out now just to spite me.
