    Hi guys,

I have a fairly decent pc as it is but I am thinking of upgrading!

I want something thats fast and powerful and can handle all todays games and then some!

I have been messing around with the spec on both these sites and I can't decide!

Both offer dual processing and even dual video cards but I know very little about this!

I would definitely want a machine with at least 2048 mb of ram!

    My current spec is:

    P4 3.2, 1024mb ram, X800Pro video card, Audigy 2, 5.1 surround sound speakers!

How does the Dell XPS and the Alienware compare to this?

    Any advice is much appreciated!

    Thanks

Dude your current spec is fine. Upgrade the card and memory if you want. Dual video cards are nice but is overkill. If i were to go for one i'd go with alienware.

My current system is starting to get a little sluggish when you turn the spec up on games like FEAR. Its fine for the earlier games.

Memory and Video card will sort that out. For the long run you might be better of to get a new one. Dell will be cheaper but alienware looks cooler.

I guess so but a little more costly!

If I was just to upgrade the memory and videocard I would have to upgrade the motherboard also, so I reckon your talking at least a grand anyway!

both dell and alienware are a rip off. they over price absolutly everything. But the parts yourself and then build it yourself. You can get mega coo lrigs for 1000 mark if you install yourself, I'm talking dual core slis.

For a xps and alienware your looking at over 2000 euro for a machine that it top notch, not worth it in my opinion, plus they use poor unbraned or poor branded ram, unless specificly stated.

They charge top dollar jsut for their name, always try build yourself.

The Dell XPS systems are considerably better priced than Alienware in my experience. The only prob there is that you gotta go with intel processors.

Yea I built my current system! Apart from the monitor which came with a dell I used to have!

    Whats wrong with intel processors?

Also, I heard that Alienware leave more room for expansion!

You wont get a high end rig for a grand. You'll get a mid range rig for a grand (with no monitor).

A high end self build will cost around 1700-2000.

If money's no object, Alienware. Otherwise self-build. I wouldn't buy the dell myself, but only because they use too much proprietary (i.e. non-upgradeable) gear in their boxes. If you don't intend upgrading, then I'd go with whichever's cheapest.

If customer support is a concern, Alienware have an excellent reputation.

i agree Dell would be cheaper, but u would have better options in terms of hardware with Alienware.

Well, I already have a Dell monitor, Audigy 2 soundcard, Altec Lansing 5.1 speakers, case, wireless keyboard and mouse!

So really I would need would be a new motherboard, RAM and graphics card! Which could be done for about a grand I reckon?
