    2. it wont read any discs but burns cd-rw only
    3. when I boot using windows it says that there is an error with a device

does the slave or secondary come into play with sata burners?

sata has no master/slave settings and should run straight out of the box.

The only thing I would recommend is ensuring you have the most up to date drivers for it from plextor.

try updating your chipset driver i.e via, nforce, intel

Maybe your motherboard is only SATA 1 compatible.

Is the burner set for SATA 2? I had a problem with a harddrive that windows wouldn't recognize. Turned out my motherboard only supported SATA 1, while the HDD was set out of the box for SATA 2.

The solution to my problem was to place a jumper over 2 pins on the back of the HDD which "downgraded" it to SATA 1.

Not all motherboards which have SATA controllers are compatible with SATA optical drives unfortuantely.

Plextor published some compatibility sheets showing what worked with their previous SATA drives which you can see here for the PX-716A none yet for the PX-755SA but I would imagine it is the same for it as well.

I would recommend you update the bios of your motherboard and then update the firmware of the PX-755SA to see if that can fix the problem.

If you tell us the make and model of your motherboard we can tell if it's chipset is on the compatibility list or not.
