If i've sent cash from my account(BOI) to an AIB account via 365 Banking, is it possible to cancel the transaction? The CSR for BOI 365 say they can't do it there, but if i ring my branch they might be able to... :(

Can anyone confirm that they can do it? Has anyone here done it?

Ring your branch like they said.
From my experience it can't be cancelled, only reversed once the money enters the other account.

i will be ringing the branch first thing, they're not open now.. Does the other party have to be involved to reverse the money?

If the payment has not already gone (though I'd say it has if you did it online) then your bank can cancel the payment. If it has gone to the AIB account, then AIB will need the account holder to give them authority to reverse the transaction and return funds to BOI - and they'll take some money as their charges for doing so probably.

it's a BOI - AIB acc so takes 3 working days to go through. I did it online this afternoon. So it *should* be possible to cancel?

apparently not. i asked about this the other day because i wasn't sure i had the right bank details. what he said was that you have to wait until it goes through and then they have to ask the other person's permission if they can take it back. they can refuse but it'd probably feck them up for banking for the rest of their lives

I think the three days might just be some sort of clearing time between the two banks - it's possible the order has gone through to AIB but won't go into your account for three days, but if BOI haven't processed the payment order yet then they can cancel it pre-payment. Get on to them first thing and they can probably stop it.
