Sven has named his team to face Uruguay:

    Robinson

    Neville Ferdinand Terry Bridge

    Beckham Gerrard Carrick Cole

    Rooney Bent

Personally I thought he would go with Crouch up front, but then I thought he would pick Parker and/or Nolan so what the heck do I know.....Looks like Defoe could be being edged out of the equation....pity cos he's an excellent finisher.

lol, Lampard 'injured', he has missed what, two club games in his life?

I think this is their best team out atm, if you replace Cole with Bridge, Lampard with Gerrard, and Owen with Bent, I think you have the best possible team that England can play. Maybe Carrick and Parker should be more contested.

totally agree....gerrard and lamps just dont click together, need to get the right blend of midfielders in there, attack minded and slightly more defensive minded. I think carrick should be in there all the time, tbh

Yeah, shame from Liverpools point of view - Gerrard needs the rest and Carragher deserves the nod.

Don't think it's anything personal to Carragher, in fact I'd be surprised if he doesn't get on at some point. Fact is England Have lots of decent centre backs at the moment and everyone has an opinion as to who should play, including Sven.

There's nothing wrong with Gerrard so he's always likely to start, hopefully it's only 45 minutes though...

Good to see Wayne Bridge in there, Englands best fit left-back at the moment. Pity Parker wasn't picked for the squad, he does a great holding role which would allow Gerrard or whoever to get forward. I just hope the next manager can see what a player he is.

What concerns me is England's lack of cover in two key positions. Goalkeeper and striker. Robinson is rightly no1, but if he wasn't fit we would be in **** street because James isn't international standard and Green isn't Premiership standard. Rooney and Owen are first choice as well and are both world class, take one or both of those out of the equation and we look a little light to be honest. Or is that my good old fashioned optimism playing its trump card again?? :D

I think Defoe is good cover for Rooney/Owen. I think Robert Green is a very good keeper, but Dracula is more likely to be the number two in Germany.

What does it matter to us? I never realised there were so many engurland supporters on here:rolleyes: .

If I was an England fan I'd be absolutely over the moon that Lampard is injured. I can see England win this by about 3 goals meaning Sven will have to cop on as to where he was going wrong.

Well the OP is English and I'll be getting behind them because Ireland aren't there.

Greeno is on the bench I think for this one so might make a second half appearance but I won't hold my breath. Think I'll wear my England jersey tomorrow

Since you tell us every match it must really be a tough decision. :)

No chance. He's either too stupid or too stubborn. Either way, he'll mess up England's best chance at the world cup for a while. Shame really.

Well I won't - I hope they get hammered in every game. They think they are great. They are responsible for the demise of Irish club soccer with their illegal abuse of young Irish teenagers. I really hope they get knocked out in their group stage, which could happen since they have the most overrated players in the world.

Xenophobia is alive and well. Particularly liked the line...
their illegal abuse of young Irish teenagers

England is not to blame for the demise of Irish club soccer.

Amazed you can follow your first post - "What does it matter to us?" up with this - "I really hope they get knocked out in their group stage".

    What indeed?
