Was playing PP Satellite earlier today and played this hand with 14 people left and top 7 getting tickets to main event on sunday.

    MP had 12,000
    SB had 12,500
    BB had 13,700 (me)

    Blinds 400/800

Only a couple of shortstacks so some play left to get the ticket.

MP limps in, SB calls and I raise to 3200 with pocket Jacks. Both limpers call my bet so i dont know where i stand now.

    Flop comes 862 rainbow.
SB bets 1600, I reraise all in. Both players call.
    MP has cowboys
    SB had A10

    Turn brings 4
    River is a 9

This leaves me crippled and i go out soon after with pocket jacks against AK.

Any advice on how i should have played the hand differently. I did not have much information on either player as had just been moved to table.

Nothing wrong with the way you played it. if MP open limped then he played well. I take it seen as there were no other players mentioned here apart from the MP and the blinds then that’s what happened.
MP was trapping and he got results. I would have played the hand the same way.

Thought i played it ok but just wanted to know if anyone had any comments on things i might have done differently. Think all my chips would have gone in on river either way with no cards higher than my jacks on board.

Think it worked out for MP limper this time but dont think it was a good play at this stage of satellite.

its not a bad play to make if your the type of player who can get away from a scary looking board.
from his point of view you make a decent raise indicating you dont have junk which means he dosent have to be scared of junk cards.yuo can argue that he should have reraised you to get HU with you and get sb to fold but then agian if he is confident he can play the hand post-flop its not bad play.

    Hi,
Sorry to hear about the JJ.I find JJ very hard to play, and I also know it's easy to talk after. With two callers and SB betting into you after you bet 3200 he had to have QQ.KK.AA.he is betting into two players and he has already called-- i Thought he indicated a set---.You would still have had 10,000. enough to get you one of the 7 places. You never mentioned the average chip count---very important at this stage of the tourney.

S.H. Good luck.Let me know if this is of any help.

I think you played it perfectly, and both of the other players played poorly.

agreed on sb part anyway, mp took a different approach to try maximise his profit, some players wait for no ace before moving, you played the hand perfectly and were just unlucky on this occasion. gl

I was going to say just the sb played it badly. But I think this is one of the situations where the fact that it is a satellite with (presumably) flat payout should change your strategy and you should push every time preflop with KK.
