    Hi All,

I currently have a 3m pixel camera and I am an avid fan of taking photo's.
Unfortunately, my expertise is not great but I would like to get better at it.

I currently have a few quid that I want to spend on a camera (~€1000), but have no idea what I should be looking at buying.

I would appreciate it if you could provide some information.

Sorry if the question is very broad.

what kind of camera are you looking for? With that kind of budget and your apparent growing interest in photography, maybe you should be looking at something like a Canon 350D or a Nikon D50? They'll allow you to change lenses / use different lenses; as opposed to the point & shoot cameras that have a fixed lens. Take a look around sites like www.dpreview.com (theres a good listing of cameras there, many with full reviews). Welcome to boards

    Thanks Rymus,

I suppose I don't really know what type of camera I want.

I kow I would like one with a changeable lens, but with regards shutter speed, zoom etc etc I have truly a novice and have no idea.

Don't bother too much about how many megapixels a camera is. If you're going to buy a dSLR, then it's going to be fine for your printing needs.
The shutter speed you can change on the camera. The lens you can chop and change.

get thee into a camera shop and have a look & feel at a few of the entry level dslr's available. Stick to either Canon or Nikon, they have the widest range of lenses & accessories available for them. Just don't do anything crazy like buy one on the spot, that's what internet shopping is for. :D

When I started people told me not to get an SLR cause I wouldnt know how to use it, but I did anyway, and I learned, and Ive never loooked back!

You'll pick everything up as you go really.

If you've got €1000 or so as a budget you could pick up one of the Canon or Nikon DSLR's & take it from there. Get a book or two on photography or take a look on the net ( www.photo.net is another good place to start) to get some advice.

As already pointed out, Canon & Nikon both have a large range of lenses & are probably the best options to go for. But take a look at some of the other brands too.

    Hi All,

Have been looking at camera's on the internet, and like the look/sound/features of the Nikon D50.
Has anyone any experience with this camera? If so, what is your feedback?

The Lens is an 18-55mm lens. What kind of shots is this lens suited to?

    All information appreciated.

    Hi
While not working with a D50 i do use my D70 a lot and after nearly 4000 shots its flawless for me. Easy to use on auto for while and when ok change to the manual modes and see what happens when you change a different setting for each photo.

Have a look at my site to see whay can come out from a D70 While i think there OK others might disagree. but the quality coming from the camera can be stunning. Try www.dpchallenge.com for more photos from the D70 also the D50. its also a great site to get you going and a great photography forum

The Camera Exchange had a D70 in the window the other day for under 1000. i got mine from there and the shop were more than helpfull so i was back and got the speedlight SB600 flash and some filters. you can also pick up a 2nd hand D70 for about 600euros and then have a few greenbacks spare for a lens or accessories. just a thought
