I believe it was put in subscriptions so you needed a Credit card to access it, therefore you are 18+. Too many Sex explicit posts were turning up on After Hours where young kiddies could be reading about guys asking about 3somes and so forth.
A nesessary cover-our-ass move on the part of Boards.

Not really, they just wanted to restrict access to stop random people wandering in and messing the whole time.

You're not paying for anything when you subscribe, you're donating money to boards to help it out. There are some perks as a thank you, but they're not 'products' that you're paying for.
