In the UK you need an operators license to legally haul frieght by truck. Does anyone know what the Irish equivelant is or have any experience on getting one?

I've a feeling I heard before that you need a different licence for each county you'll travel in I think one of my old neighbours said he needs 6 different ones for transporting goods to Dublin

But surely within the EU they have standardised this?

Isn't it only Waste/Garbage transporters that need a license per county?

you need to have a cpc cert to get a operators license and these cover you national and international. Test is done three times a year. Or have somebody with a cpc working for you as a transport manager

As lanno has said a Certificate of Professional Competency is required (by owner, spouse or employee) before applying for a Road Freight Carrier Licence. AFAIK one has to prove that there is adequate work available ,that is not being currently met by another licenced haulier, before the licence is granted. First truck costs €9,000 and €5,000 for each subsequent vehicle.

    Have a look here: http://www.transport.ie/roads/roadhaulage/

Drivers will also need their own CPC http://www.rsa.ie/NEWS/News/Drivers_CPC.html

If you have an international haulage licence you do not need a separate licence for Ireland. No Need for a licence for each country, and it does not cost 9000 for a haulage licence. Operators from another country working in Ireland works under cabotage rules but this is tightening up.
