I know now that it was a stupid thing to do but I just disabled the VGA driver on a box I have here.

It's running windows 2000 and every time it boots up I get a blue screen and it restarts.

How the hell am I going to rescue this or can I? If needs be I will just have to reinstall Windows. Not that big of a deal as I had just finished building it.

Phew. Got Last known Good configuration to work. Won't be doing that again.

[edit] Actually the problem I am trying to combat is that only display settings available are VGA and 16 Colours max 800x600.Any suggestions on how better to achieve this? It's an old box which I will be accessing only by winvnc.[/edit]

Get and install the appropriate driver for the card. That is all.

But does VNC even need a card?

    Hardware is not my thing.

VNC usually defaults to the output from the card, so 800x600x32 or whatever. I don't know if VNC even supports pc's without a vid card (or if the pc would even start up, even servers have an ATI rage chip on the motherboard usually), but installing the drivers properly should fix your problem.

Cool thanks. I had meant to open it up and clean it anyway because it's so noisy. Have to remove a few cathodes from it too.
