And yet the number of players they get is still growing and growing. How much longer are we going to moan about the CPT and do notihng about it? The last thing we need is a repeat of the Cavendish down here and if it does happen its most likely to be idiots like the CPT's fault. I think its about time we put a group of people together to campaign against them. The only reason they are getting the numbers is because the players that go don't know any better. If we get a group of boardsters together to hand out flyers at their tournaments to inform people they are being ripped off by the CPT, the organisers won't be long changing their ways.

i lifted the above quote from another thread, but it made me think of a conversation I heard in the emporium one night about people setting up an Irish Poker Players Association. This was was pretty interesting to me, a governing body that set guidelines for how tournaments should be run, seek benefits for pro's much like the way the GAA players association does deals all over the place for gaa players. below is an email i sent to the irish sports council
I am attempting to contact the someone regarding setting up the official Irish Poker Association. In the manner that the FAI (Football Association of Ireland) is the main governing body of Irish Football, myself and a number of colleagues wish to set up the Irish Poker Association as the governing body of Irish Poker. As poker has taken off over the last few months we feel there is an increasing need for an association, a representative body that can be consulted regarding problems of any nature. Some of our functions would include:

issue an official rules for cash games / tournaments.
organise and run the official national championships.
regulate the operation of pub-run games.
provide a collective voice for poker players in Ireland.
operate an online forum for poker players. hehe, boards.ie of course! :)
run training seminars for novice players.
    provide gambling awareness programmes.
promote the set up of poker leagues and college societies to promote the game on an on-going basis.

Please could you provide me with contact details (via email, post or phone) with whom I should speak regarding the official setup of such an association.

    Regards, etc etc.

I think if there was an association of sorts then issues such as those described by NickyOD would be addressed.

Anyone have any thoughts on this!?

I'd be willing to do up a better website for it for a hefty price.

I'd agree with Bohsman here. Not worth the hassle.

Things like regulating the pub poker scene would never work. what do you do, go to a pub tournie and say if you want to run this under the IPPA rules you have to do x,y and z. They'd unpolitely tell you to fcuk off.

Also I reckon you would have to get players to pay a subscription in order to kick things off. Good luck to you on that front.

The best thing going for poker players in Ireland at present is choice. If you dont like a tournament, dont go. If enough people don't go then the organisers have to change the way they run it or fcuk off themselves.

off topic, if anyone wants to do a good article for Irish Poker Player on the Casino V Pub Poker scene (without naming the bad ones), I'll try to get it printed. Need it fairly quick though.
