I just bought a microsoft image editor as above.

I cannot open my .cR2 files with this program although it boasts it can.
I tried hooking the camera and downloading the images directly but it they don't come up on the screen.
When i download them with my card reader it says it can't open type of file.

I juat upgraded the 350D with the latest bios last week 1.0.3. ,i thought maybe this might have something to do with it.

Digital Image suite can NOT handle raw files. I know it says it can (sort of) but it doesn't. Start Image suite, open help, search for RAW - it will tell you all about it. What it expects you to do is convert to jpeg or some other supported format and then bring it into image suite.

DIS 2006 can open RAW files. It supports .CRW and .CR2 as well as .NEF formats. However, it will not open them directly from the camera...

    From the help file:
"Digital Image does not support importing RAW image files using WIA/PTP-compliant devices. (WIA refers to Microsoft Windows Image Acquisition, which, in part, is an interface designed to allow software applications to recognize imaging devices. PTP refers to Picture Transfer Protocol, which coordinates commands from portable image devices with standard transport frameworks such as USB devices.)
    "

Is this the way you are trying to open them ? Have you tried copying them to your PC first?

DIS see's the .cr2 files on the hard drive ,but sees them as .cr2 files and not RAW image files.
When i try and download direct from my camera ,only the secondary jpeg files are listed.
I've also switched between print mode etc when downloading.
I've only started using digital imaging software and the microsoft program suits my knowledge of imaging.
I'm sure microsoft have the hands on the raw situation as slr cameras are in there 100,000s now.
I was suprised to have only found out about raw issues this morning and didn't realize there was an issue ,to be honest i'm kind of glad there is an issue though it gives the whole imaging thing a new special dimension for me. each image is unique.

I finally got chatting to a guy from microsoft
He told me to take the software back to microsoft and get a refund.
He agreed the said file .cr2 was listed in the user manual and told me that it doesn't work in the same sentence.
I also found out that the new windows system will have raw image reading as standard.
