Can anyone recomend a good attic aerial for receiving rte 1&2, tv3 and tg4?

My reception of those channels with my one 4 all super duper aerial is crap, and would like to be able to watch the channels. At the moment, it hurst my eyes too much!!!

Oh for the 4 irish channels to go fta on sat.

Any suitable 21 element Yagi Chimney mount aerial in an Attic does better than your One 4 All..

There is no such thing really as an attic aerial since anything from a Set top aerial to a chimney/mast mount aerial can be mounted in the Atttic. Maplin have attic mounts for outdoor aerials.

Note some 100 element aerials are really 21 to 25 element, they count every spikey bit as an element. In reality in Aerial design terms it is length on Boom and number of positions on boom that count. For long yagis ( > 2x wavelength) the design can be adapted to use less elements on similar length boom for same gain, bandwidth, directivity.

If End Peak/Gable wall faces Transmitter an aerial slung out from a side window sill may work better.

Where in Ireland are you ? In some places you wont get RTE1 and 2 on a UHF aerial because theyre on VHF only. You might need two aerials (although if your lucky the TV3 & TG4 signals might be strong enough to come in on a VHF erial

If you can get a signal from Three Rock (Dublin) youll get all four channels on a single Wideband UHF aerial.

If for any reason you cant get Three Rock and have to rely on Kippure (Wicklow) you may need seperate VHF and UHF aerials in order to get all four channels

Most parts of Kildare can get a signal from Three Rock AFaIK (Claremont or Cairnhill are also possible alternatives)

I get Kippure fine, a weak Cairn Hill and a weak Clermont

    I get a whisper off TV3 and TG4 off 3R. And no RTE1/2.

Most of Kildare will have serious problems getting Three Rock due to it being sheilded by the mountains; Kippure is the best bet.

I can get both Maghera and Mullaghanish VHF on my UHF aerial badly. With an attic UHF yagi aerial and a "rabbits" ears combined with VHF/UHF diplexer (or any Y splitter at a pinch), you should get all 4 channels fine as Kippure VHF is massive in most of Kildare.

I imagine with only UHF aerial the VHF might be a bit grainy, but a quad bowtie might bring in UHF and VHF fine as they are much more Wide band than Yagi and very little aerial gain is needed for the VHF.

With out hi-jacking mj's thread but I am going down the same route FTA box+Ariel in the attic. I am based in Ashbourne so I presume I will be pointing at Three rock so I take it I need to get a UHF ariel?

    Thks

Clermont is far, far better in Ashbourne than than Three Rock, but its also all UHF. My sister gets it off an large enough wideband in the attic at her house in the town, but three rock was unwatchable.
