Fungus attack

    Hi all,

I have an opportunity to buy quite a pricy lens for a very low price due to fungus on the inside of the lens. It looks to be pretty extensive

Assuming i get this lens for around a tenner, could anyone give me an idea how much it would cost to have the lens treated and restored to good condition? If the corresponding lens is being sold for around 150-200 second-hand and fetching the same on ebay, would this be worth my while?

The lens in question is a 24mm Zuiko 2.8 by the way

Maybe bringing a fungus infected lens near other lenses isn;t the best idea? Although I have always wanted to try dissolving a lens in solvents, so if I could get one of those... well that'd be kinda cool...

Yeah, i'd imagine it would spread fairly easily. I keep a dessicant in with my camera bag to deal with any excess moisture to prevent this from happening to any of my own lenses.

I imagine a situation where the lens could be dismantled, somehow cleaned, left for a period in a dry environment to prevent any recurrance of the fungus, and rebuilt. It's the cleaning part that i worry about, as i know nothing about how to treat elements, other than not to touch them!

Does anyone have experience saving such a lens?

I once took a lens apart,

well it cost me €60 to get it put back together...
