Browser-side image resize

I'm writing a system which has an image upload facility. I would like to restrict image dimensions to conserve bandwidth. I know I can have the user upload the image and have php resize it on the server, but I was wondering if there was any way of doing the resize browser-side (obviously not with php). Any ideas?
