I know we have a few vineyards in Ireland.. mostly around Cork... So we are officially a wine producing country... just wondering has anyone found any or would i have to travel down there and get them direct?

Anyway more importantly though.. When in the states.. Michigan to be precise i get loads of wine made with cranberry or blackcurrent instead of grape... however when i ask in a wine seller here such as winesdirect in mullingar for blackcurrent wine etc... im showed a red grape wine with hints of blackcurrent :D

So can we get this yummy wine here? I mean this stuff is good!!!!! Whats more we grow blackcurrents and other berries so there should be no reason we do not have a larger wine industry with non grape wines...

So any other wine lovers out there that knows where to get this stuff?

At the moment I'd say your best bet is to find some local enthusiast who makes their own. Wow I can remember some very interesting experiments about ten years ago; a mate of mine's father made home made wine. Some of it was awful, but some of it really was good to drink...

Many people look down on wines that aren't made solely from grapes, but my dad used to make all manner of homemade wines back when I was a lad and some of them were brilliant. Elderberry wine and elderflower 'champagne' are great and have the added advantage that the main ingredients are free. He also made something called tea wine that actually contained very little tea IIRC, but was quite superb. It had a fair bit of fresh ginger in it and wasn't all too disimilar to the Ginger Wine (Crabbies, Stones) you can get in the UK (and here sometimes too).

Corkscrew on Chatham Street were selling an Irish red for €11 last time I was in there (a couple of weeks ago.) Don't remember any particular details tho.
