    I eat smoke and swallow cinders
    What was once on the brink of
    Burning out of control
    At the slightest spark
    And now just a hindrance

    Flash point in sight
    I pull my protective clothing on
    Smother every flammable feeling
    And extinguish any hope
    Of re-igniting

    The point of origin
    Somewhere inside this electronic maze
    The traitorous walls around my heart
    Singeing yet standing
    Undefeated by the blaze

    The solid centre simply ash
    The result of too much stop-start ignition
    I recover a full box of matches
    Intact and superfluous
    Sitting alongside a waiting work of fiction

    Yet your power lines hover stubbornly
    Snake like smoke
    Draping around my mind
    Emitting heat and light
    But I cannot control your setting
    Or turn you off at night

    Gratuitous flickers of lust
    Licking along the floor
    In time they too will fizzle out
    And I will be myself once more
