    Bonjour,

"LCI" (La Chaine Info) has recently been added to "Hotbird 1" @13E, and can now be viewed Free To Air.

It won't be found on a FTA scan as it is marked "scrambled".

I'm missing something. Who is "Melissa Theuriau"? LCI didn't seem very interesting as I don't speak French.

    You're too old :p

I'm surprised this isn't going up free on to 5W also - but it might be in the Newtech mux that nobody has suitable boxes for (but that is FTA)...

    French TV transmitter remain unencrypted
(sh) the programs of France television should be unencrypted to receive in the long term over satellite.
Presumably starting from summer 2006 the transmitters are to be radiated officially over ATLANTIC BIRD 3, 5 degrees of west digitally.
At present only France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5 and LCP are transferred as supply for the digital terrestrial package TNT over transponder 11.591 GHz v.
The package contained furthermore the culture channel arte.
In the coming year France O and TV5 are to complete the package.
About 15% of the French households receive TV programs over satellite.
In foreseeable time the similar spreading is to be stopped by France 2, France 3, France 5/arte, TF1 and M6 over ATLANTIC BIRD 3.
Meanwhile popular private station of the country also further only coded in the context of the Pay TV platforms CanalSat and TPS are radiated.
Only the popular private station M6 with advertising islands for franzoesischsprachige Switzerland knows over EUTELSAT W3, 7 degrees of east to be unencrypted received.

French O is Overseas Channel: for Reunion etc.

I'm only too old to do really daft stuff like stay out in rain all night etc.

Theres two transponders on 5W carrying the entire contents of TNT (their DTT system) FTA, but using "DVB Newtech", minus the France 2/3/4/5/LCP/Arte transponder. MPEG4 are encrypted, so it appears I was wrong that LCI was up for free, but anyway, heres the listing.

    11139V:

    M6
    W9
    NT 1
    Paris Première MPEG-4
    TF 6 MPEG-4
    TF 1
    NRJ 12
LCI - La Chaîne Info MPEG-4
    Eurosport France MPEG-4
    TPS Star MPEG-4

    11636V:

    Direct 8
    TMC
    BFM TV
    i-Télé
    Europe 2 TV
    Gulli
    Canal+ MPEG-4
    Canal+ Cinema MPEG-4
    Canal+ Sport MPEG-4
    Planète MPEG-4
    Canal J MPEG-4

I'm going to guess that Newtech is a pre-DVBS2 method of using MPEG4? Or possibly its a specific setup so that the feed on the transponder goes out directly as-is on the DTT system, hence the encryption/clear status...

anyone know why the french dont do widescreen for the rugby if they have digital terrestrial etc. Is it a policy decision or that they just couldnt be bothered? only having sky I dont get the other french channels are they in widescreen and if not why not??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

widescreen isnt as popular on the continent as it is in the UK and Ireland.

Widescreen is really a gimmick invented by cinema in 1950s to combat rise of TV. Our vision isn't that shape. How many paintings are anything like that shape? Except for landsscapes it doesn't actually look very good.

However we are stuck with it now.

LCI was always marked Scrambled on my box even when it was clear. It was encrypted again last night on Hotbird.

DVB Newtech might just be proprietary encryption. It wouldn't make sense to use DTT modulation. The actual DVB MPEG2 stream under the modulation is the same on Cable, Satellite and Terrestrial. Same applies to DVB MPEG4.

It also would not really make sense to use DVB 422.

Very often encryption flag can be off and channel encrypted or vice versa.
