I have a dell latitude laptop and I would like to install windows XP .
The laptop has a swappable CD-ROM / Floppy drive however the CD-ROM drive no longer works . Is there any way I can install XP from a USB CD-ROM drive or from my home network . I would prefer not to have to buy a new internal CD-ROM drive from e-bay when I have a perfectly good USB drive here .

You can network install or use the USB drive. Easiest way is to copy the entire disk to the laptops Hard drive and run set up from there.

Do a google search on below
Dos drivers for external cd rom windows XP NTFS setup

    or i found this link
    http://www.bootdisk.com/usb.htm

You'll have to make a bootable floppy and with the links above get drivers for your external cdrom .
I'm sorry i can't be more specific ,but i haven't used dos in about 10 years.
