Digital Camera Advice

    Hi,
Im an art student looking for some advice on buying a new digital camera. I've got a budget of about €400 and need a decent quality camera that has a high optical zoom(x10aprox). Ideally I would buy a digital SLR but they're really expensive so Ive been looking at a few cameras like the Fuji Finepix S5600 , Kodak easyshare Z74O and the canon PowerShot S3 IS. Is Fuji generally reliable? If a cant get a Canon that was going to be my next choice.
    Anyway,
Any advice on this would be great,
    Cheers

I got a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ5 at Christmas, 5.0 MP 12x Optical zoom lens made under license from Leica, 4 shot burst mode, great pictures. €380 delivered from www.pixmainia.com..

What about the Irish shops? Would prices be horribly expensive here? (not talking about online shops btw)

I would highly recommend the Fuji range. I started out with a S3000, and then went to the S7000 which i think is the business. The 10x is a great incentive and is also on the new S9500 which i'm tempted to purchase.

I saw the Panasonic in Peats in Blanch for €500 so yes horribly expensive!

I'd go with a Fuji Finepix, I'm an art student myself, a fair few people I know use them and find them great!

They're generally reliable, and have a decent zoom, and macro.

    Video feature is alright too.

    (BTW, where are ye studying?)

I have the Fuji FinePix S5500. Excellent camera and I think the S5600 should be better.

Peats doesn't represent Irish prices in general and it's not really a camera shop either.

Check out Halls on Talbot St. and the Camera Exchange on Georges St. Their prices compare very well with online stores in my recent experience. They also have good staff who can help you make a decision on what to get.

Another vote for the FinePix. I used the S5500 before I got my D70. Great camera for the money. Good picture due to a good quality zoom lens.

All prices are Ex-Vat, so don't feel too bad.
