I recently did a full re-install of windows on my inspiron 9300 to keep things fresh. After doing so I went to dell.com to download a few drivers, however I am unable to do so as, when I am asked to selest an operating system from a drop down menu, the only thing that drops down is still, "select an operating system". This prevents me from proceeding to the drivers page. Does anyone know why this is hapening and if so how to rectify it. Thanks in advance.

Is it a java wesbite ? You may need some updates from msft etc:

Whats the link to the page your trying to view?

YOU COULD TRY DOWNLOADing THE Latest VERSION OF JAVA,FOR WINXP, maybe you have problem with activex, in internet explorer ?, Enable java compiler , java console, install on demand in internet explorer.Or try using opera or firefox to acess dell.ie , ie you may have reduce security settings in I.E. to medium or lower , just while your acessing dell .ie .
or MAYBE you need to update to explorer version 6 .02 I.E. ,download latest version from ms.IF you are reinstalling i.e. or Java do full reboot of pc.

I am using firefox. The strange thing is that I had to re-istall twice. The first time I loaded up the boot cd while within xp. This had the affect of basically installing two copies of xp on the hard drive which ate up a load of space. Anyway after the first re-install I was perfectly able to download the drivers no problems. Now after the second re-install I am having these problems. thanks for the replys and i'll try out some of the advice.

Try acessing site ,with internet explorer, some sites just dont, work properly in firefox, though you can set ff to emulate /appear as internet explorer to some website,.theres no one that can do with ie, if u want to be able to acess ALL WEBSITES, some sites will not work ok, if you have ALL pop up windows DISABLED.RE enable pop up when visiting dell.ie.
FF cannot emulate internet explorer perfectly,it doesnt have the same coding or activex extensions,as I.E. 6 .

Try downloading ie, or else u can install it from any bt broadband, eircom old cdrom bb disk, even an aol disk.uninstall I.E. first.uninstall the popup stopper if u have 1 on your pc. How old is your dell pc. ? You cud always go to netcafe download it to a cdr disk, or usb drive.Try boot up in safe mode ,then go to dell.ie ,click download drivers/ utility. TRY knocking off services in winxp , that you do not use like remote management etc.
