What does anyone else think about the situation with the GPA looking for government grants for the players?

    Link from Indo

Imo the players get their expenses already and this is a step too far towards professionalism. The GPA would be better off working towards getting better conditions for players in terms of insurance, medical care and support for seriously injured players.

Don't they only represent the elite players too? They should represent all players.

afaik the GPA represent almost all of the inter county players. Their membership is open to all of these players. I say this because recently one of my fellow clubmen got called up to the Dublin senior hurling panel and was asked to join the GPA.

As for the players receiving government grants, im not too sure about that as it would be pay for play. Maybe they would be better suited getting some sort of tax break instead??
