AIB 24 Hour Banking

Sorry mods, dunno if this is the right forum to put this but feel free to move if need be!

Ive been signed up with AIB Internet Banking for about 2 years now. I find its a great system, by far the easiest to use and with the widest variety of banking amenities.

But, I've found that once it goes past 4 o clock(which is the reason for the hour of this post) that the phone and internet banking switch off. If I try to log in to my internet banking I get the error "
Technical difficulties have occurred. Please try later. (Ref: 2033)" which means the service is offline. If I try and ring in to check my balance or alter with my accounts I get directed straight to a representative and I don't know about you but the last thign I want to do at 4 in the morning is talk to somebody about my bank account.

I understand when it comes to websites that there is a backup downtime allowance but it cant span over 2-3 hours and alos effect the automated phone system?

Does anyone else have this issue or is it just me? 24 hour banking, to me, would entail 24 hour access to every part of the package offered.

percentage of people looking to avail in the wee hours is so low that that's when I assume they make all their changes to the systems, do back up etc. roll out software changes, take ATM machines offline.

it has happened to me also, but I just accept it as their "down time".

I have also noticed this,I do not mind it. But do they not claim to be a twenty four hour banking service?

It sort of still is 24hr banking if you can deal with customer rep in relation to your banking.

I have havde been using 24hr banking for a couple of years now. Much better than the rest on offer. Rarely enter a bank now unless it is to withdraw large sums of money.

    same as.
and i've never had cause to use it at 4 in the morning, unlike that Garth_V degenerate...
god knows what sort of twisted reasons he'd have:v:

    to quote the AIB site.

"We changed the name of our Internet Banking service from 24hour-online to AIB Internet Banking. "

    and

"From December 2nd 2004 the web site address of AIB’s Internet Banking service changed from www.24hour-online.ie to www.aib.ie/internetbanking"

The reason for the downtime is that they need to apply direct debits and items from the clearing system during the night. It is always done by 6am.

It's not just a "back up" it's a huge, huge set of inter-related computer jobs which are done in an overnight batch, and this does take some time - all of those systems are interlinked, including the telephone IVR system. Naturally, it's done at the quietest time possible to ensure minimum disruption.

It's a complete pain the hole when you need to urgently transfer that last tenner into your other account in time for a direct debit which goes through in the morning :(

    Hey all,

I recently signed up for internet & phone banking with aib and today I received my Pac no. However on the letter it says I have to ring up aib telephone banking and register. However to do this I also need my 8 digit registration no. I have no idea what this is and cant seem to find it on any of the documents I've received. Anyone have any ideas?

Ring them up, pound the keypad to get through to an agent.

Then give them your details and they'll sort you out.

Going by the direction that they share price is heading at the moment, you could be getting an even more unsavory message in the days ahead when you ring in!

Any fixing they do is done during normal hours. They don't have access to ATM machines at 4 in the morning.

I notice it happens a lot. I put it down to security, it seems to be every night if I am correct? I am sure they do not update their systems that often, downtime surely isn't needed that much, is it?
