You hosting provider should be able to help you out. Some payment gateways offer a secure payment page as part of the package so you wouldnt need a cert.

Try my hosting provider - Blacknight Solutions

We have been using them since 2001, from all the hosts we use, they are tops big time. SSL certs are not 2 dear, I'm sure they will be able to help u out.

if your from a programming background then you may be interested in www.openssl.org you can write your own ssl cert and get it certified by www.cacert.org all for FREE

Whilst researching openssl and perhaps doing your own certificate is cool and money saving (I'd probably do the same myself), I'd recommend actually going the commercial route and paying a company for a certificate, that way if your site does get hacked (i.e. your customers credit card details comprimised), you can have a safetey net and blame the company who sold you the certificate, whereas if you do the cert yourself and you get hacked; you're the one responsible (and it could be down to the fact of your inexperience with the topic..).. It's a tough choice..

You can use paypal with osCommerce, can be handy if you only have a small number of transactions, all automated, ie cust pays via paypal, paypal lets osCommerce know, osCommerce puts the order into paid/pending shipping.
