I have a digibox at the moment but I have a quad LNB on order which will be arriving soon. My plan is to run the other three connections to three different rooms and just use the FTA/FTV. As of yet I have no reciever in mind. Can anyone recommend any nice suitable, cheapish box to get?

Well, if you intend on using FTV cards, then it must be a Sky Digibox. If you intend to buy a second hand Digibox, I'd suggest a Panasonic, or Pace 430N. Avoid any Pace 2500's as they had tuners that are prone to failure.

Otherwise, FTA receivers. There are so many on the market, some rebranded versions of others. Personally, I like the Strong SRT6155, or there is a cheaper variant, some without the LCD panel with channel number, and some without RF modulator.

I also like Topfield and Drake receivers, and the new Triax seems OK, though not sure how reliable the Triax is yet. I will say avoid TechView receivers though.

We have had a lot of trouble with Strong Receivers in the past
{remote problems and power failures} staying clear of them now.
also we used Triax and had few problems
We are using Globo for a while now and have had no problems.

There is nothing inherently wrong with Strong.

    Who's "we"?

Yourself and satworld is it. We all know what you are trying to do. As watty pointed out, there is nothing wrong with the strong's and as your sidekick said in another thread about Technomates given trouble, well I have to disagree with that also. I have used and sold many technomates in the past and have not had one fault.

For me, Strong have been quite reliable, though I only mainly use the SRT6155 and 6130 models. Maybe other models are less reliable. With the 6155's though, I've had 1 faulty in about 40 boxes, which is more reliable than some.

Of course, there is still the big names like Nokia, Humax, Echostar, Manhattan, etc that haven't been mentioned. I think some of these are only distributed by Electroplus unless you buy from across the water.

Agreed strong boxes are very reliable, failure rate of 1% on ones I have sold
