How to make friends?

Hi everyone. I've just recently moved to Maynooth from "down the country" and the usual way people make friends like college (I'm not in college), work (I work with one other person, she's 50!), housemates (2 guys that work shifts and are never there, I've only met them twice in 2 weeks). I moved here for a job but other than work I have no life and nothing to do here. I don't even have someone to ring up just to go for a quick pint. I'm a girl in my mid twenties by the way and thought it would be easy enough to make friends here but I can't exactly go up to strangers and make them talk to me. Any help on how to meet people? It doesn't even have to be Maynooth....the surrounding areas and Dublin is just as good. I'm not really a sporty type, was thinking about maybefriends.com or something like that but it seems you have to pay for any of those sites. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Hi Summerjones,
Check out the 'East' forum under region. Maybe re-post this thread there and you will be reaching a crew specifically in that area. Good luck :)

Think there's a fair few boards.ie posters in Maynooth actually. I can think of one at least who's a mid-twenties girl. Stick around and you won't be long making some friends.

Thanks Sleepy, I hope so. Staying in every night watching tv and talking to myself is getting a bit old.... :)

You're a girl. It can't be too hard. Go to a pub, sit down and wait for people to come up to you. I thought that's how it works.

Hmm, if you are a girl go to Copperface jacks, snog a public servant and meet loads of people.

Or just go down your local and dress nicely..someones bound to hit on you.

Or do a night school class..dancing, a language, cookery or maybe the Cival Defense ..you will meet people each way :)

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Check out www.okcupid.com It's totally free, you're bound to find some relatively normal people in there :D
