Im thinking of setting up a wireless network at home to share broadband between 2 pc's and to send files between them. I might be getting a laptop soon (with a wireless card) and I would like to be able to connect it to the network aswell.

Would something like this: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=304347 connect the 2 pcs ok. Also I am on imagine broadband how do you share the broadband with th second pc, does just having the wireless router connected to the pc with the modem work or do u have to connect the modem through the wireless router.

In case you hadnt noticed im a complete newbie when it comes to wireless networks so i hope i have made sense!!! Thanks for the help:)

Typically, the wireless router (the thing with the two antenna on it) will sit by your telephone / adsl line. There is no need for this to be connected directly to a PC.

With the package you linked to, you also get a USB dongle. Plug this into a PC and you'll be able to connect to the wireless router and access the internet through that. To connect another PC you need another dongle or wifi card.. or you could still connect one of them to the WiFi router with a normal eithernet cable.

Connecting 2, 3 or more PCs to the network is done by configuring the router to accept those connections. It's usually a fairly easy thing to do. Its the router that will be connected to Imagine; everything else is connected to the router.

The modem plugs into the phoneline and then into the computer? No, you wont need that.

The wireless router will plug into the phoneline.. the wireless usb dongle is all you need connected to the PC.

If you are renting the modem from Imagine they may be able to upgrade you to a wireless one. Could be worth contacting them to find out.

From the link, the wireless router plugs into the ADSL modem (WAN is RJ45 not RJ11 + read the first komplett comment), cooperguy needs to keep his modem.

Oh right, sorry about that. Assumptions the mother of all **** ups :-/

Short answer remains the same anyway -- yes, it will work to connect your PC's.

If you want to buy a brand new one I'll sell you this for 75 euro and deliver it free in Dublin. http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=306149[/URL] I can deliver tomorrow. I wont be dealing with Komplett again because they wouldent take it back, my friend sent the same one back no problem.

I bought another one that has ADSL built in as I didn't want to use the one supplied. For your Desktop you can use a USB Dongle or a Network Card, the Dongle is better if you have free USB 2X slots.

I was in a hotel recently and they were charging 28 euro for 3 hours of wireless broadband (which is ridiculous) so I bought a USB Extension cord for a fiver and hung it outside the window and was able to get free Broadband from one of the nearby (more expensive) hotels. So you need to setup security on the Router so others can't access everything on your home network.

Good luck setting it up, Joe
