    Hi,
I need to run cable from my LNB to receiver - approx 15m. What is the best Coax to use - something that is readily available

    CT100 from Maplin.

    CT125 is OK too.

75 Ohm cable with Copper foil on good copper braid. Uses larger internal hole F-Connector, not the skinny hole for Cable TV cable.

A lot of shops sell stuff called Satellite cable which is more suited to long Cable TV runs.

    Aluminum foil coax corrodes badly.

Use CT100 (copper on copper). This should be available from any GOOD satellite/aerial installer. I prefer the 'foam' version (solid centre) to the 'semi air-spaced' More resistant to kinking and water.

B&Q had CT100 grade coax with foam dielectric in 25m rolls for about €20 last time I looked.

Yup, I also say CT100. Avoid that RG6 muck.

Just make sure the cable has copper braid, and copper foil.

I also prefer the foam dielectric, for the same reasons as Rippy.

Is this also suitable for cable tv in a new build.

Most definitely! Don't accept anything less than CT100 (copper on copper). Much better shielded cable than the tin stuff.

I recently purchased 2 100m reels of WF100 (CT100 equivalent) copper-on-copper, foam, black and white co-ax cable from http://www.satcure.co.uk for approx €157 (incl del), this worked out about 79 cent/metre.

Before buying online I shopped around Dublin for copper-on-copper white co-ax cable but I could only find black RG6 co-ax cable in the large hardware stores, Maplins stock FT100 cable (aluminium and copper shield) at €1.65 per metre.

The Satcure website has a lot of information on co-ax cables. They also sell hi-spec co-ax cable by the reel or by the metre together with satellite accessories, F-connectors etc.
They shipped my order next day.

The cable sold on the Satcure website is also CAI Benchmarked Cable, approved for use in DTT installations in the UK.
RG6 and Maplins FT100 cable are not on the CAI Benchmarked Cable List.

Before Christmas Maplin was selling genuine CT100 1/2price only for full reels.

I've dealt with Satcure for years and Martin was expert at Analog Sat Repairs. Fine company in my experience
