why are old car so expensive in germany

    i was just browsing the net there and comparing the price of ten year old cars in germany with those in ireland
    the cars over there tend tno be much more expensive
    y is this can anyone tell me?

    I'd hazard a guess that it'd be because they've seen far less hardship. Ten years of driving on smooth motorways and autobahns etc. would do your suspension and bodywork far less damage than ten years driving on Irelands shambolic road network.

    Sounds reasonable, but I always thought buying from Germany was cheaper?

    The German equivalent of the NCT is very strict, so any car that passes it must be in some pristine condition. They check alot more on cars over there than they do over here. Generally, cars on the continent are more expensive second hand because they hold their value so well. I saw a 1994 Renault Safrane for sale on autotrader.fr for about €2000 ! whereas over here if you found one you would probably only pay €500 for it.
