I never got into this show when it was on,but I have heard it was great. Well the first few season were great and then it kind of went off in a tangent.

Despite that,is it worth getting on dvd? The first and second seasons to begin with anyway. They are only 20 euro each on play.com. Seems like a bargain to me. Don't know if there is a catch. It says "M-Lock" beside each of them-http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=rvisb&page=title&r=R2&title=866898

Not sure what that means, but it still looks good, the entire season for 20,any thoughts?

If you have SKY its always on FX. M-lock is a feature on the box that holds the disc more securely and its easier to take out. A lot of Fox box sets come with it (Arrested Development)

The 'arc' episodes are un-re-watchable imho (they're just 44 mins of mumbo jumbo garbage and hoodwinking) but I find the standalone episodes (esp the ones that are 'kooky' or played for laughs) are very good entertainment.

For 20squid I'd say its a bargain (esp if you've never seen the eps before).

I bought season 1 recently for 20 lids, a bargain IMO.

Aren't the MLock just the boxes that close magnetically? Got the first 8 seasons off a mate of mine like that.

As for The X-Files.. i absolutely loved it when i was younger but tired of it in later seasons. Think i stopped watching after
the whole Mulder and his sister
    storyline really took over.

But overall, it is a fantastic show and well worth getting on DVD!

First three seasons are what it's all about tbh. After that, it gets all waffly for a few seasons (although I liked it again from season 7 on - went back to basics).

    Can any1 help?
I want to know the episode name/series number of the episode where two rednecks were keeping their mother (who everyone assumed was dead) under a bed and wheeling her out for occasional fun. I've looked thru the descriptions on tv.com/the-x-files but to no avail.
I can't remember what the full storyline of the episode was about but I was trying to explain it to someone who didn;t know what I was talking about. I think one redneck got away in the end, with the mother.

    Thats called 'Home' iirc

OK Thanks. I might consider getting at least the first season then because I have never seen any of the show. 20 quid for a season boxset of a show I have heard was really good in its early days, seems like a good buy. :D

    Tks Pigman II, impressive stuff.
Episode 75, the second episode in season 4.
    Dunno how I missed it.

The best episodes were Bad Blood, with the vampire trailer park, and Dreamland parts I & II, with Michael McKean. :D

There was an excellent episode where they were investigating murders
at a carnival. Think it may have been an influence on the hbo show
    'carnivale'

That episodes was hilarious. The first 3 or 4 seasons were good. It seemed to lose it's way a bit after that. I doubt they'll ever get around to making that movie sequel.

Yep.. saw that episode again recently when i was re-watching. Recall it being The Fiji Mermaid episode if i remember correctly.

Even had Michael J. Anderson (Samson) from 'Carnivale' in it!

Still favourite episode of all would probably be 'Ice' and also 'Tooms' (which still freaks me out to this very day)

Christ.. all this reminiscing is tempting me to get out the first season or two to watch again! :D

I'm feeling tempted to get out my credit card and hit play.com, reading this thread i'm getting floods of memories. My favourite characters were the Three Lone Gunmen (was that their names? the three adorable geeks who revered Mulder not just for his investigations, but mainly his ability to talk to women).

There's also the amusement of watching the (i think) second season, when Gillian Anderson was pregant and they film her in an increasingly bizarre series of angles throughout the episodes to keep the bump hidden.

    The Lone Gunmen

DVD of the spin off, well worth it. :D
(If you have a region free DVD player)

I am/was a die hard fan, even through the tediousness of the story arcs in later seasons,, and have to agree that it lost something later on.
I've the whole series in divx and stick one on every few nights...favourites? Well the one about the tree larvae that only live in the dark is a cracker, and the one in season 4 or 5 written by S. King is excellent; about the cursed Chucky type doll that can't be gotten rid of :D

As for the Lone Gunmen (the series) all I can say is meh....didn't do it for me at all and smacked of hanging on the coattails of a superior show.

I was also a diehard fan. I have series 1-7 on DVD and 1-5 are great imo with 5 being my favorite. 6 and 7 are weaker but I will probably grab 8 and 9 soon because I actually thought Robert Patrick did a good job in those episodes.

Anyway my favorite episode is the one with Peter Boyle as the guy who can tell when you are going to die. Hilarious episode. Name escapes me. Also the flashabck episode showing how Mulder first met the Lone Gunmen during the 80s. Great stuff.

X-Files' legacy can still be seen today if you ask me. It started the whole trend of having high production values in a tv show (i.e. make an episode with the same kind of standards you might apply to a movie) and tv has grown from there. It's not the only one that pioneered this idea by any means but tv certainly beneffited.

Also be sure to check out Millenium if you get a chance. A classic show that was sadly cut after season 3.

The one where Mulder and another sleazy married FBI agent accidently swopped bodies was pretty funny too (two parter?). In fact most of my favourite eps were the comedy ones.
It did have some great SF/paranoia moments though and at one time it was definitely the best thing on TV.

Not a great show ... but the first ep did feature a hijacked airliner being flown directly at the twin towers ... that's got to count for something in the conspiracy stakes

your right about that, empire recently cited Due South as the start of those ally mcbeal type quirkey surreal shows that go all the way up to scrubs... X-files and Due south must have started been around the same time...

my fav were the one where that Ribidichi guy ( whats his name, phoebe's brother) was in it, and was that jack black aswell

also the piromaniac one which burnt a child alive and the one with the shapshifting wolf!

Ah now see I didn't see that one....I kind of came in in the middle of the season and just didn't enjoy it.
I'll have to go hunt that one up...

Dragging up an old thread here, but does anyone have the DigiPack version of Season 9 Collectors Edition for sale?
Have 1-8 digipack versions, but my season 9 is m-lock. Just want to buy the digi to complete the collection.

    Cheers

In my view, best tv show ever and gets constant viewings in my house (though I bought them when they were released first and spent approx £100 on each of the earlier sets- d'oh!!).

Some of the samantaaaa episodes got quite tedious but even the later series had some cracking episodes (didn't care too much for Doggett at first but actually like series 8 and 9 now).

probably should have ended it at series 8 when everything was neatly wrapped up but for €20 a set - buy it!!!!!

I used to have the biggest crush ever on David Duchovny :o Had pictures of him all over my room for a couple of years.

My favourite episodes were Tombs, the one where Mulder and Scully had to pretend to be married and live in the suburbs, the one where the guy killed people if they stood on his shadow, and pretty much any one with the Lone Gunmen.

Stopped watching when it got a bit silly around Season 5/6, but might keep an eye out for those box-sets, just to find out what happened.
