I am totally respectful of the knowledge of the contributors here - but I have a simple requirement .....

.... If anybody knows about any horses that are actually TRYING - I would appreciate it if you post them here.

    Thank You

    Tom Kelly

... yep master ... that may be the understatement of the year ... the non-triers on the allweather are the easiest to spot and it is frustrating when your research is just wasted ... I should know better and stay away from aw ...

... on another note, my Cheltenham banker is Ballytrim ... was told about it before last win and that connections had lumped on seriously @ about 12/1.

Add Studmaster (County Hurdle on Gold Cup Day) to that.
Get on him now as he's still at 7.0 or better on betfair.

The last I heard about Studmaster was that he was going for the Imperial Cup at Sandown a couple of days before the Festival starts, if he does that must cast doubt over him running in the county hurdle, or maybe they plan to take in both races.

On a similar note to what Tom is saying, I hate when horses dont try for a place. I do a bit of backing/laying in the place market on betfair, and very often, once the winner passes the post, the others will ease off and not even try for a place, forgetting that there are a lot of place/each way backers/layers out there. Perhaps there should be higher ££ incentives for placed horses at tracks, but I for one know I have often screamed at jockeys easing up, when the should be battling for a place.

He will probably run in both as there is a bonus available to any horse that wins both. Pipe got it with Olympian some years ago. Had good word for him in the Pierce and got some of the chelt bankroll. This is my first post on this forum, but if I hear anything before then I will let ye know. Although he will get about 200 tips for chelt.

cant wait for it, like Santa for grown ups. :)

Try a 30 runner Maiden/Novice Hurdle at Navan or Naas on for size, after they've jumped 2 hurdles you can immediately count out about 10 Horses who are anchored at the back, whose Jockeys make no effort whatsoever to put their Mount in the Race for the duration of the 2 miles.

I take your point Tom but I think the Irish examples are so much worse (blatent) and nobody i.e the Stewards appear to not give a fiddlers about it.

    agreed fr w w ... or a bumper ...

it's a closed shop ...when did you ever hear Ted Walsh or any of the pundits ( England or Ireland ) criticise a jockey - or name a non trier ...

... I am a sad, pathetic punter - reduced to seeking out my horse as soon as they jump off and feeling as if I have backed a winner when I see from it's positioning and the body language of the jockey ... that, at least it is trying today ... I must be ****ing crazy ...

... there is a big case for only betting in Classics, Grade Ones etc. - all running on their merit - it is almost fair!

If it was easy it would be no fun and there would be no bookies hence no racing. If all horses tried to win it would rather easy to make a living from betting.

... so finnpark - following your logic, it must be a breeze to make a killing betting on soccer, golf, gaelic, the olympics and any other sports where, in general, all contestants are 'Trying' ...

... in fact I think the stats will not bear that out ... I think I read recently that the % of bookies turnover on horseracing is only about 30% now - and they are making increasing profits ... and all those athletes, racing cars and even lottery balls are definitely 'Trying' ...

I will leave it at that ... horseracing, without info is not a level playing field ... but nobody ever dragged me into a bookies and forced me to have a bet ... so I make my own choices and shouldn't be moaning, I suppose.

No. Other sports are totally different to ho horse racing - you cannot compare horse racing to other sports. Also the odds for soccer etc are terrible as it is only a 2 horse race. You cannot compare horse racing to soccer or any other sport. Its not like 11 horses against 11 horses with a piece of leather:D . Tactics don't come into it as much, and there is no offside rule:D . You cannot compare horse racing to other sports.

Around 35% of favourites win, which is extremely low when you think about it.

The fact of the matter is that only 50% of favourites are actually layed out for the race their in. Also, in handicaps only 2 or 3 horses are usually trying - the others are deliberately underperforming while you will always have a few donkeys.

The betting market and racing industry is designed to take the money off punters into the racing industry - ie bookies, trainers, jockeys, courses etc. That is why you are not making money.
