I know it wasn't the best time for music. I was wondering if anyone knew any good music then? I'll always stay true to the 60's and 70's but I like most types of music and I don't know much of music in the era.

Pretty much depends on what you like!

I wasn't much into the hair bands, but New Wave in the early 80's did it for me, along with a few other bands.

B52's, Asia, Beasty Boys, The Buggles, Cheap Trick, The Cars, Crowded House, Peter Gabriel, Devo, Depeche Mode, Elvis Costello, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Fine Young Cannibals, Joe Jackson, Kate Bush, Men Without Hats, and many more. Ozzie was in full swing, and Van Halen still had an album or two left in them. And let's not forget the Police!

The beginning days of MTV were exciting!

That sure reeks of being harebrained 'received wisdom'.
Maybe your comment here is in relation to mainstream/top 40 music?

You can't deny that the 70's were better. The 60's and 70's is when rock was at it's peak performance. SOME of the music transfered over to the 80's but not much.

Eh... Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, anthrax, BlackFlag? Thats in metal. In the broad world of music it was a great decade. Perhaps some of the mainstream stuff wasnt great but lots of it was animal. Loads of great Ska too.

    Peace

It's definatly my favourite music era. Listen to Motely Crue and Guns N' Roses and you'll know what I'm talking about. Pure rock.

btw, cool name. The Silmarillion is my favourite book :)

It's funny how the 80s has a bad reputation in music, as it's undoubtedly my favourite music decade. There was absolutely loads of good stuff.

Just listening to Y&T "Black Tiger". Another great band from the 80s.

If you get past the spandex and make up with alot of the 80s metal bands, then there really were some great fun bands.

You might want to check out this years Bang Your Head lineup. There's an impressive amount of spandex bands confirmed. Whitesnake, Y&T, Foreigner, Rik Emmett, L.A. Guns.. the list goes on!
