Hi there and I apologise if this has already been covered but I thought you would like me to share this info

I have just returned from a long weekend in Wexford. The accomodation there has just had a Freesat dish installed (bargain I thought at €100 for installation) and at the same time the engineer connected me up to the apartments main terrestial aerial system.

Unfortunatley the Irish Stations rx is very poor and is quite grainy (Yes its a vhf/uhf tv and I know the freqs involved). However, the UK reception is superb. Anyway, here is the best bit.................

I took over with me my freeview Saegem box and lo and behold, I did a rescan and I can get all the Welsh TV and radio signals. I had 90% signal stength and 70% quality on the 3 days of my test on Mon-Weds 20-23 rd Feb. I know its early days and condx may vary over the summer but it is very encouraging.

Remember that Freeview has channels like E4. Sky Travel and More4 free where you have to pay for this with $ky

To keep my wife happy, we have arranged to get a second hand contract with $ky and she can watch RTE etc in Wales or Ireland

I used to work in Wexford 20 plus years ago and I knew then that UK TV was reasonable but I cannot believe I have all these free stations - -especially now that FilmFour is soon to be FTA on Freeview.

If I can be of any assistance to any one about Freeview/you want to have a loan/trial/test/chat about/of my saegem box (they only cast about €50 equivalent and the prices are static/coming down all the time) then please contact me. I will be over in Wexford around Easter time all being well.

Before you ask, the location (QTH to ham radio friends) is next to Whitford House Hotel on the Newline Road

    TTFN

Apparently FilmFour will be going FTA also on satellite in July also! Unfortunately, E4 won't be (well, any time soon that I'm aware of)...

It may only be FTV on satellite (i.e. A UK lapsed subscription card or a Freesat from Sky AKA FTV card).

    thanks for the update.
Seems the old threads have disappeared.
Freeview's gettable from various parts of :
    • Wexford
    • Wicklow
    • Louth
    • Cavan
    • Donegal
    • Westmeath
    • Sligo
    • Roscommon
    • Monaghan
plus of the course Northern Ireland.
Wexford is a very strong signal area because of a clear line of sight across the sea to Presley.
