    Hi everyone,
Yann Coussot, chairman of UL Archery and founding member of the Limerick Yeomen has asked me to let you all know about the field Intervarsity being held on Sunday, April 2nd, in conjunction with UL Archery Club.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SCORES FROM THIS IV ARE NOT ADDED TO THE 05/06 LEAGUE SCORES.
The shoot is intended to be a fun and relaxing way to finish the season this year, and anyway... all the prizes will have been presented the day before.

The shoot will consist of a mix of animal faces and target faces, at various distances. It will be held in Boarmanshill, out near the Clare Glens. Full directions are given on the Limerick Yeomen website, but anyone that will be staying from the IV on 1st can head out with the UL club.

    http://www.iol.ie/~limerickyeomen/

If anyone is interested in attending the shoot just drop a line to archery@skynet.ie

The rest of the details will follow closer to the date.

    Mags.

    What catogries will there be?

    Barebow and freestlye?

sounds like a fun and amusing way to lose arrows at the end of a season. I'm sure we'll all have great craic, and my arrows weren't actually mine to begin with.

Field shooting is great craic, brings ya back to the Nottingham Forest days. Good few NUIG people are up for it!

OK, Yann just sent me on this e mail to let you all know the details so far...

No affiliation needed for students we've organized insurance cover with
    the university of limerick.

The animal targets will be unmarked with distance. but they should be
placed within this distances for the first peg

Group 1 targets large animal shoot from 40 to 60
Group 2 targets medium/large animal shoot from 30 to 45
Group 3 targets medium animal shoot from 20 to 35
Group 4 targets small animal shoot from 10 to 20

There will be four Hunter faces as per IFAA rules at marked distance,
you shoot 4 arrows on this target faces scoring 5,4,3 or 0
    1 x 65cm with pegs at 58-53-48-45 ; 1 x 50cm with peg at 44 ; 1 x 35cm
    with pegs at 23-20 and 1 x 20cm with peg at 11.

    PLEASE NOTE:
As we are using the IFAA book for setting up our course this are the
distance used please note that they are given in yards not meters, I'll
let you do the maths if you want metric.

A good way to set up your sights use your 18 m (20 yd) mark move up 5
yards without changing your sight and shoot learn where your arrows
lends it can help to know this when you go to field archery as you'll be
able to adjust for your next shoot.

It is highly recommended to bring a pair of boots or wellies to be on
    the course.

Both barebow and freestyle catagories will be catered for.

Access maps available on the Limerick Yeomen Web site
    http://www.iol.ie/~limerickyeomen/venue/

now some of this is double dutch to me as I don't shoot field archery but as before... if you want any other information just mail archery@skynet.ie

Are these distances a wee bit long for people who have never shot longer than 18m? I know we can tune our sights in but getting the time and space isn't easy. If these are the distances thats grand, but is there any chance there could be a "field archery beginners" peg?

To be honest you're better off to email Yann before the weekend so he can sort out if there will be a beginners peg or not. UL archery have no say about the distances or targets in this competition and I won't get a chance to talk to him before Monday. If you just mail archery@skynet.ie he'll be able to sort it all out for you.

hey, Yann asked me to find out if any experienced field archers would be attending the shoot. He just needs to make sure that there is an experienced field shooter with each group.

There are very few field archers on this board - I'm sure Yann knows, but he'll probably get a better response by asking Don to mention it on the IFAF mailing list.

I will be there. I've only done field three times. Twice FITA and once big game.

I think Niall Doyle will be there too. He is came second in the national Field championships last month. (I could only manage 3rd)

Wasn't sure where to put this but here seems as good a place as any.

A couple of us in DCU were thinking of shooting in the field shoot but as we have never shot anything past 18m before we decided to rent out our three halls to get a bit of practice in. I haven't measure it yet but we should be able to get up to 30 metres. It's open to anyone that wants to join us.

It's on in the DCU sports complex from 8 - 10 on friday night. Our normal training session is also on before hand from 6-8 so feel free to come to that too.

We are unfortunately getting charged to use the halls but we get a really cheap rate and we'll divide the cost between us. At most it will be about a fiver for the two hours.

    Lightweights :p

You should try clout shooting some time - the target is about 140 yards away.

We manage to break enough arrows at the 18 mark as is. Can't wait to see what happens Friday :)

We'll figure out some sort of net set up before hand I'm sure
