I've been asked by a mate to convert some VHS videos to DVD.

What do I need to capture the VHS to disk - I presume some sort of a USB video capture device.

Anyone have any advice/devices for sale ?

    Thanks....

You basically need a tv input card. For decent quality ones, check hauppauge's line.

Khannie, it's more or less a once-off job. I'd rather not spend much on it if at all possible, hence looking at USB devices.

I'll check those out anyway, thanks.

Do you know someone with a DVD recorder who would help you out as that is a very cheap and easy way to do it, just plug the VCR into the DVD recorders input press play on the VHS tape & press record on the DVD recorder & that’s it.

Just make sure you finalise the disc if the DVD recorder asks otherwise the disc more than likely wont play in his DVD player, if you wanted to take it a step further you can import the disc from the DVD recorder onto your PC and do up a better menu for the title if your not happy with the interface (usually a thumbnail) the DVD recorder provides with some software like Nero Vision.

You could also get a crappy tv card on ebay for next to nothing if it's a one off job.
