Folks, this is probably old news, got it off the AIB Website. What do the "usual suspects" out there think will happen!:)

"Setanta expected to bid for TV3 stake (22.02.06)
Irish sports broadcaster, Setanta, is expected to bid in the imminent sale of a 45pc stake in TV3, currently owned by Canadian media firm, CanWest, according to media analysts. The other major stakeholder in Ireland's sole commercial terrestrial channel is ITV, which also has a 45pc stake and has pre-emption rights - the right of first refusal - for the stake which is expected to fetch around E100m. CanWest has set February 28 as the final day for bidding. Setanta will join Ulster Television as the two main outside bidders with ITV. The key obstacle, according to Goodbody Stockbrokers analyst, Neil Clifford, for CanWest in achieving a good price for its stake relates to the future of its ITV programming agreement which ITV could withdraw (when the agreement expires) if CanWest's stake is sold to one of the outside parties."

Doesn't ITV have to sell existing stake if they (ITV) don't buy it?

Ah, would be some revenge on Tv3 if UTV got their hands on it!

I think that itv have first refusal so if utv or setanta bid more than itv did they get the chance to match it and so get control of tv3. however I cant see itv paying over the odds for it. I can see a scenario where setanta win and use it as a base to promote their sports rights via highlights or some live games on tv3 and the rest on setanta.

Hmm, some live games would be good for TV3! Better than some of the tripe that is on it atm.
