EFI on Mustang

My SSIA is ready next year :D and I was thinking of splurging and putting EFI on the Mustang, it could cost the guts of 3000euro if I went for an off the shelf kit that looks like a carb and makes the engine look stock, that pretty much includes everyting. I can do it cheaper by getting stuff off ebay and "MacGyvering" the rest.

What are peoples thoughts on this, is EFI worth it? Has anyone else done aomething similar?

    Thank you

    6 of one...

Does the kit come with a computer and all that stuff ? If so, the tinker-factor is great, you get to hook up a laptop and change things, take datalogs etc, probably even make "dyno runs" on the road. But it can also take some setting up, getting the values right for our climate - especially the cold and hot start values.

The kit might let your car make more power lower in the rev range. Is there a forum for this kit or similar in the States ? If so, you would tend to get people swapping stories and datalogs in the search for more power/economy/smoothness etc. That's the way it is with the Link ECU that I use. I make datalogs, send them to someone, they retune the fuel/ignition and send it back to me for uploading to the car - and on and on.

I dunno, that's why I say 6-of-one, 1/2 dozen etc. Carb'd engines aren't the most efficient, but just work. Injected engines do everything better, but are more "clinical" about it. Funnily enough, you also get people converting their injected engines to carb'd engines.

Now, if t'were me :) I'd take my nice Mustang, get it repainted in the colour of my dreams, and then get a custom interior on it like this:

I was thinking of one of these:

http://www.paceparts.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=26322 I can't find a forum for it, but I've seen a few links where people drop them in and are happy with them.

It actually comes with a little computer module, but I'll check that you can hook into it with a laptop first as I would like to be able to tweak the setting away from the car. My reasons for thinking about it are:

1: starting, I'd like the car to be runnning smoother, quicker. Its putting me off bringing it out often as its a bit rough as its warming up
2: Power, someone told me you have beter response
3: Fuel economy, no really important in a car that uses such a stupid amout of fuel anyway
4: A new toy :D need something new to tinker with

I'm very comfortable with computers and graphs and that, no so much with the voodoo of carbs

    Interesting... I use this: http://www.dataloglab.com

If you had this or something similar... But go with the one that has support - whether it's from a dealer/manufacturer or a forum of like-minded power-junkies

That's what id do to, or for the same money you could fit a 5 speed manual box.
I'd look more in to stopping it than making it go quicker (discs):)

Disks are on the list, waaaaaaay ahead of the EFI, also a paint job is very close after that, I'd actually like to be able to leave the car out without fear of it rusting away

A nitrous oxide kit would be a lot cheaper and a load of fun if you've got a strong engine. You could buy a new carb if its not running right.

tell me more about ths Nos kit you speak of... . is it not a bit "fast and the furious" ?

nitrous oxide is used in hospitals mainly in A&E but can be got by someone who has an account with BOC. The gas is piped directly into the inlet manifold with a microswitch to activate. The amount of gas is controlled by the pressure regulator on the bottle-trial and error. A friend of mine had a stock 68 Camaro 327 fitted with nitrous and made my 396 SS look very silly. Few years ago now-swopped the Camaro for a Cortina GT because it was cheaper to run. Silly me.

    Hi Tom,
Not really a dealer I just buy cars usually Mustangs I like and move them on after 6 months, it sort of finances my hobby so if you know of anyone who is looking for a Dodge Ram ha ha  ,
Don't forget we're meeting in Kilbeggan the first and third thursdays of the month (just check with me before traveling ;) )thats this thursday and if any American cars are around on Paddy's day we're doing a big Parade in Athlone.
So hows your stangs going tom ? I don't see many fastbacks in poor condition and even in the states they are usually big money  but if I hear of any I'll let u know
    cheers
    joe

It shouldn't as it won't really boost power its more an ECO thing, smother running etc.
