Ok.. possibly an easy question here but unsure of where exactly to start!

A friend of mine has 2 PC's with wireless adapters in each and a Wireless Router. He wants to be able to have the 2 PC's communicate / share files etc. over wireless.

I'm sure this is possible but unsure of exactly how to implement this.

Any online guide would be very useful!

    Regards,

    basquille

Microsoft have a some what easy'ish guide to follow. But there are plenty of guides if you Google around for some.

My very rough & short guide
    1) Find out which hardware supports what a/b/g and settle on one g being best if they all support it.
    2) Setup wireless router as access point, give it an SSID, channel to work on and set the mode to operate at "g"
    3) Enable WPA or WEP security if supported (use WPA over WEP if you can) use a mix of numbers plus higher and lower case characters and take down the password.
    4) Install the wireless network cards in the other PC's with WinXP SP2 if they ask to use their own control panel say no let Windows do it, if running any other version of Windows let the third party utility handle it.
    5) Windows will detect the wireless network and prompt you if you want to join it feed it the password when asked and that’s it.

If you're router supports it I would highly recommend enabling MAC filtering as an extra security layer, take down the MAC address of each wireless network card and enable MAC filtering in the router and add the two addresses this will keep anyone from using your network except those two wireless nic’s.

Be aware than anything else operating on the 2.4Ghz frequency can interfere with a wireless network many common items like wireless TV senders or even some wireless controllers for game consoles use that band if such items are present it may work fine it may not.
