I haven't discussed this with my co-mods but as long as I have some part in the modding of this forum there are a couple of things I'd like to iron out.

Firstly, we are only a small room in a gargantuan forum building and unlike other forums who have seperate forums for systems, fun bets, maximum bets etc...we just have the one. It's always been a conversational forum, i.e. open discussions about everything from trainers to jockeys to Cheltenham etc. It is NOT a tipping service. Despite the wealth of knowledge and good info on here it's still a place to discuss horse racing. Last week I opened a thread about the quality of the information that has been posted here in the past few weeks. Long may this continue, but in order for the forum to remain clean and tidy I'm going to suggest some rules that you can feel free to openly discuss.

Firstly, this mythical bank idea. As I said before, we have no specific area for this so for now I'm going to suggest that we limit this to 3 people only. This is on a first come first served basis. The reason being that I don't want to open up the horse racing forum every day to see yet another mythical bank from someone who probably won't even keep it up. It'll soon turn into a spam fest of pin in the paper tips that I don't want to be a part of. So, Wbailey who I know to be a good systems studier has got the ball rolling - it's not gonna roll too far though.

Secondly, this has been discussed to death but I'm going to throw it out there again. There are a number of people on this forum who have earned the respect of the other posters by their previous discussions, information, analysis etc. These are the people who have earned the right to, once in a while, post a selection without analysis. Everyone else has not so as this is a discussion forum I would ask that you expand on your selections in future. If Iloveireland wants to start a thread about tips my mate has given me, then that's fine, but keep it to one thread and stop spreading them like wildfire all over the forum. By keeping it to one thread, others can discuss the merits of certain selections etc and congratulate your mate for picking a winner.

There may be more to come on this, so stay tuned. In the meantime, feel free to argue with me about this.

    D

Agree with a lot of what you said there. I really can't understand the need to open up a new thread for every single race. Whoever is first to post a selection on a given day can just be sensible and open up a thread called 'Wednesdays Racing' or something similar, then everybody can contribute to the same thread. Saturdays racing thread is an example of what I mean (just don't look at my selections).

If you are planning on keeping a sequence of selections then it makes sense to put them all in the one thread so that they are easy to track/follow (similar to what Vindon does).

As for mythical banks, it's a makes sense to limit them or even have a few people post on the same thread. Maybe they should be locked if they are not updated after a few days.

good points well made. don't really want this place turning into the type of 'discussion' forums on betfair.

I know i'm guilty for backing on the remotest reason, i guess i'll just mention it in future & feel free to give me a kick up the ar*e when i don't offer up enough info to made the thread or reply worthwhile.

Basically if you just remember that this is a discussion board then you really can't go wrong.

Can I just add my backing to what Fade has just posted above. It's very well put and as concise as it needs to be.

@sector. The last thing I would want to see is this board turning into some elitest tic tac board. I would encourage each and every user to pick and tell us about his selection and, if needed, the reasons for it. Not everybody needs to know about form, previous races, jockey weight etc... I'm assuming you are not just picking on the basis of "I like the name of the horse".

Even if you are, tell us why. Then listen and contribute to the discussion and learn from what is discussed, I do. Remember it's a fun sport, but a helleva lot better if your winning rather than loosing

I know people who only back on the Gold Cup or the National and have the best craic of their lives with it. I don't want to see "those people" not being part of this forum because they may think that they look foolish by asking stupid questions or asking the wrong questions (and I know that that was not what fade was saying).

I have also noticed very little post mortem discussion on a lot of these 1 off tipster threads, and yes I have been guilty of this. I think a discussion after a race is as important, if not more, than the reason for backing the horse in the first place.

    just my 2c :D

Discussion is the key alright. As a more of a week day viewer of the forum I find some of the discussions great, but come a monday morning the dire and shameless top of the boarding 'tipping' posts that are around from the weekend is amazing.... blowins you may call them.

Basic rule of thumb I'd say is to follow the 'Weather' forum.... they don't start a new thread everytime the weather changes! ;)

I have to agree that multiple threads one after the other all tipping Horses is very off-putting.Minimising them in some way would be a big improvement to the forum imho.
