guys/gals, you know the name that you put in when you install your operating system, office etc. is there anyway to change the name on it?
Basically my mate bought a laptop from his girlfriends IT supply company, she installed all the software on it, no big deal that she typed in her own name when she did it. now they are split up and her name comes up every time he opens something (even when he plugs in his ipod) is there a simple solution or are we talking re-install? He has all the disks etc and i wouldnt even have to wipe it just re-install over the previous copy, im just lazy and would rather not.

Which name and which Operating System? There's a login name and then the Name/Organisation settings that should only show up when installing software. If it's the login name then go to control panel -> User accounts and create a new account. Make that an administrator account and you're done.

If it's the Registered Name/Organisation then there's a program called RegUtility that will let you change these.

This should do it i think but software like iTunes would have to be changed manually as well I think.
